Bye Bye Impreza
Discussion
Sad day tomorrow, the Impreza is sold.
At 159.5k miles it's been brilliant - expensive but brilliant. If anyone is interested have updated the blog for running costs over three years and 85k miles that I have put on the car. Now that it's just about bankrupted me time to get a diesel for a while

I miss my Turbo 2000 at times!
Had a quick flick through your running costs and they seem quite reasonable for the mileage covered. The cambelt service is the killer - recently had it done on my WRX. Adds nothing to the car apart from that all important stamp (and piece of mind of course!).

Nice Turbo 2000, the same colour as mine (I have silver wheels).
Yeah, the cambelt is a killer - fortunately it also had a clutch not long before I bought it. What is a killer though is the amount spent on fuel over those miles which I work out to be £18.5k ish at an average 26mpg and £1.25 per litre over my ownership - Eeek.

Fun comes at a cost. Would you really have been happier driving a Mondeo or some such other bland device?Yeah, the cambelt is a killer - fortunately it also had a clutch not long before I bought it. I have no regrets and had plenty of fun I'm actually quite sad to be seeing the car go to a new home. I updated the blog because there are sometimes posts where people ask about the costs of running a Subaru, it was more for a 'well I did and this is what I actually spent'. Never really bothered about the fuel, just added more when it was needed It's only after the event that I've worked it out and thought 'crikey!'rb5er said:
Wow, you did more in maintenance in the last year than I have done in the last 4 years on mine.
My every day motor doing almost 30,000 miles a year; that's what it took. Apart from the fuel pump failure (which even with I still managed to drive home from London to Lancashire) the car has been 100% reliable. It's with a tinge of sadness that I too, am in this "club". My Hawkeye WRX was sold last night due in part to the doris getting a company car and me getting passed on a totally shagged out Mazda 6 with more body damage than the average battle tank.
I know the logical route would have been to dump the Mazda and keep the Scoob, but my head ruled my heart this time, or for the next year at least.
It hasn't stopped me seeking alternative options though. Once my Lancer Turbo goes into storage I'll then have room for another car and a decent Blobeye WRX or STi is calling...

Man maths rules
I've been doing 600 business miles a week since October. I still bought a Scooby doing 28mpg, over a derv repmobile doing 40mpg. Man Maths suggested that I'd have to buy a second weekend car if I got the dull diesel, so the cost in fuel offsets the cost of a second car.Man Maths in action
