Lineartronic Forester Diesel
Discussion
Don't know about the Forester but my dealer (Switzerland) told me that they have a dealer presentation for the Outback in January with the first public showing at the Geneva motor show in March.
The European Outback site for the new car is here: http://www.power-in-your-control.eu/outback/ECbase...
The US and Aus reviews for the new car are good and I, like you thought the drive of the current Outback diesel / lineartronic was a nice combination. I'm thinking of putting in an order when I know the pricing. My biggest regret is that the 3.6 is unlikely to be available as the diesel felt a bit sluggish.

Thanks for the link, can confirm the diesel lineartronic is due in the uk shortly......http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201412319876014/sort/pricedesc/radius/1501/make/subaru/postcode/hx64la/page/1/fuel-type/diesel/usedcars/onesearchad/used%2Cnearlynew%2Cnew/model/forester?logcode=p
Thanks for that. It seems like March will be a biggish month for them then.
Here in Switzerland we're starting to see dealers discounting current Outbacks quite heavily. Subaru Switzerland have reduced the prices of the Outback by CHF 5000 (from about CHF 40,000) and have a run-out model with a bit more kit thrown in.
In Australia / NZ Subaru have cut the price of the new Outback quite aggressively. They're doing this because of the advantageous Yen exchange rates. I'm therefore waiting to see if Subaru in Europe do something similar.
Subaru is currently the most profitable Japanese car manufacturer, mainly because they manufacture such a high proportion of vehicles in Japan and the exchange rate. They're also having record sales, mostly on the back of the US market where they sold 500,000 cars last year.
I'm a current 2003 Forester owner (2.0 XT) which we bought from new. For me the new Forester feels less car-like whereas the Outback feels more like my old Forester, though a lot more refined and more stable especially off road. The weight difference isn't much between the two cars but the Outback is bigger inside.
As for the lineartronic I think it's a nice gearbox apart from when you floor it and it suits the diesel well.
