impreza p1 steering issues

Hi there I have a p1 but I can feel play in the steering wheel even when sitting stationary. Wen full lock is on its feels like the steering wheel is fighting me sort it flings back there is no looseness to tightness issues with it just doesn't feel right. Power steering pump was changed a few months ago as pulley nut had sheared. Could it be steering rack or something loose as in a bearing on shaft.any help would be appreciated but the please stay on point. Cheers stephen
