Tribeca - Worth a look?

I have had a few through my hands, to be honnest, other than the ability to carry seven on some of them, and a wee bit of height gained, i cant say they did it for me, to my mind it felt like a fat heavy outback, and used even more fuel. It might be due to being so rare, but i was constantly worried something went wrong, i know its mostly same as the leg / outback, but they make you feel the opposite. I did see a facelift one up my way for sale privately, and must admit was tempted to make a cheeky offer, but i didnt bother.

I can see a few for sale and do know of one owner who liked theirs.
Some sort of comparison is the 3.6 Outback at c.£16k for 2011 model vs sub £10k for a 2009 Tribeca with similar miles.
I did notice that only the Outback has the SI drive which of course, means the # happy button on the steering wheel!

I've had a Tribeca. Can honestly say that I loved mine - cheap to buy, reliable, very quiet, good handling and big inside.
I didn't want to go down the usual Disco, X5 etc route. Having had a number of Impreza's previously I'd completely forgotten about the Tribeca till my local dealer asked me if I'd considered one - was exactly what I was looking for.
Had nothing but positive comments about it, proved to be very accomplished in adverse conditions and came with all the toys I could wish for.
In typical Subaru fashion it was very thirsty but then the engine loved to rev. The gearbox gets a bit of criticism for constant swapping between ratios but run in sport mode and it behaves better. The gearbox is not on par with the latest ZF's but is perfectly acceptable.

I cannot see the dial in any photos.
I'm warming to them as you can probably tell...
I bought one a couple of months ago - mainly because I liked the rarity of it (last car was a Vel Satis Initiale) - and absolutely love it.
Feels very solid in adverse conditions; I love the looks and it has a better (and more hard-wearing) interior than the FF Range Rover I used to have. Fuel consumption's the only real negative - but then in my experience that is more than compensated for, by the current values.

When I bought my 3.0 Outback last summer there were a few lpg-converted Tribeca's around (think they may have been factory converted or at least Subaru-approved conversion) - worth looking out for one of those. I probably should have got one instead of the outback but I didn't really fancy one
