Hi

Has anyone tried different sizes on their Spec-B and got on ok?

I'm thinking of a 225/40-18 Summer tyre and 215/50-17 Winters.. The standard 215/45-18 is a tricky size to get..

I've got 225/40/18 Dunlop's on mine & have been really pleased with them (obtained through blackcircles.com iirc).

At this size there's a much wider choice of makes /models, lower prices, and I can't detect any difference in the handling.

Not sure why I'd ever go back to the stupid standard size...

My experience over 100K miles is that the OE Potenza's in the proper (and PITA) size are the best.

I have put 225/40/18's on in the past and it's OK - the handling is less sharp - but since wifey drives it day to day I'm not that fussed since it's a pretty significant saving against the bridgestones.

One word of advice though - make sure the side walls of the chosen replacement are stiff (esp if you go to 45's) as it does have some fairly significant ramification on the handling.

I put some Vredstiens on recently - I can't criticize their grip or stopping power, but the handling has gone to rat st and they will be coming off ASAP.

There is now what I can only describe as 'secondary handling' where the movement in the sidewall seems to disconnect the front and the rear of the car. It's really horrible
