Looking at selling my lotus elise in preparation for winter motoring.

I've looked at the hatch back impreza a few times and on paper it's the perfect package for me. Power, AWD and can carry all my sports equipment (bikes, boards etc)

Any owner experiences and things to look out for. I've got my eye on an unmoddified 2008 model. I've seen a bit on line about piston ring land failure. Is this common or just a small number engines affected. Suppose that's the only thing that's putting me off at the moment.

Cheers.

For a standard car then you should be ok. The main concern is that the heads lift on high boost and this causes head gasket failure. Ringlands are a problem, but head gaskets are much more common.

Speaking from experience having just had a rebuild on an 07 STi.

Avoid. Not worth the sweats waiting for it to go. Lots of forged ones around or JDMs.

Ah that is a pity as it ticks all the boxes and seems good value. Shame. Back to the drawing board then

This is what you want, my man. Saw it on Sunday and it looks like a very well cared for WRX. http://usedcars.subaru.co.uk/dealer/Impreza/2.0-WR...

Ignore the mileage as my STI has 89k and the Forester 120k. The EJ20 in all its forms will go forever.
