Real world Impreza mpg comparisons
Discussion
I have run a Legacy for almost the last five years. A 2L NA estate. But now I find I have a real hankering for an Impreza. A really strong hankering. I want that bit more power and speed and poke and just fun.
But: I've also managed to coax a regular 36-38mpg from my Legacy on my 60-mile daily round trip commute, so while I want all the things I might get from a WRX / STi / w'ev, I also don't want to find I'm crying myself into work every morning at 40 miles an hour because I'm upset about the fuel consumption.
I know I'll end up spending more on fuel than I currently do, but I want to go into it with my eyes open and a genuine appreciation of what I'll be in for
So whatever Impreza you run, I'd really like to hear what fuel consumption you get, and what sort of driving you get it from. My commute is almost all free-flowing DC, with a mile or two of wiggling at each end, so obv it would be the closest comparison if that's similar to what you do. But I don't mind, I'd like to hear from you whatever.
If you've got any model of WRX or STi, saloon or wagon - please take a minute to put some figures up here if you can. Thanks loads!

04 STI (300ish bhp)
200 miles to a tank normally. 250 miles to a tank with the kids in the car! (average / pro rata figures)
I don't do big mileage a year but the fuel consumption makes me think twice about driving it too far.
I am mechanically sympathetic with regarding to warming up etc but didn't get an impreza to drive slowly so plenty of spirited driving (obviously in acceleration rather than mph as we have speed limits to adhere to)
If you're worried about mpg don't get one if you want good performance for not too much money I think they're a good buy. Remember they need running on sul. Mine always run on shell optimax/v power

I've a 03 plate WRX wagon which, although standard, has been dyno'd showing 238bhp. If I do a lot of short journeys, it'll do about 20mpg. Best I have had is just short of 30mpg on a motorway run. Could maybe get more, but have too much fun generally. Only ever fill it with top spec Shell V Power. Not that worried about fuel consumption as I only do a few thousand miles a year.
03 WRX wagon ppp
60 miles daily, 50 miles motorway at <60mph and 10 miles relaxed b road driving, average somewhere in the 35-40mpg region.
Caning it through the mountains on the weekend, 20ish mpg
Best average over a tank, 33.9mpg (calculated) on bp ultimate (no v-max or momentum here )
Week to week, currently getting over 300 miles to a tank. I'm fairly certain that I deserve some sort of very boring award...

I recorded 7800 miles of fill ups on a 2011 STI hatch from new (broke it in gently for first 1000 miles). Used only Shell V-power and Tesco Momentum. Ave mpg over that mileage was 26.2mpg. Fitted 330 pro R pack half way into that mileage and also fitted winter wheels for half the mileage. I didn't see any real change in fuel economy. Max mpg I got was 31.4mpg on a ±300 mile round trip (mostly motorway miles). Min was 19.9mpg. These max and min averages are from a near full tank as I used fuel log to record all the fill ups and brimmed the tank each time. Based on an ave 26.2mpg it works out at just shy of 350 miles to a 60L tank but I never let the tank run too low so that's a mileage I doubt anyone would see. I don't hit the limiter on my cars till the oil is warm but I don't nanny them either once it is warm. I reckon the modern STI is a lot more fuel efficient than previous Imprezas (had a P1 a good few years ago and that drank fuel faster than a 911 turbo, in fact single digit mpg was possible regularly)...
