Hi,
I've had my WRX a year now, it came from a main dealer and had a bloody annoying "Parrot" fitted, it had a bloody annoying "parrot" fitted , it...oh never mind.

Anyway, recently I've been getting battery drain and it was suggested that it might be that, so I set about removing it. I took the Mic off the B Pillar, and removed the small button which sat above the Stereo, but kept getting a "connection problem" over the speakers each time I turn on the ignition.

Anyway, while looking for the Parrot box, I removed the side panel of the centre console, only to find a Harman Kardon Ipod connector system along with 3 metres of wires stuffed under there.

I then lifted the Passenger carpet and spied a small black box with "Microart.ca" written on it, after peeling back the carpet and removing the metal kick panel underneath, there is a disconnected SAT NAV system, with a lot of connectors all taped up.

All I can ask is that is this a factory option that someone (possibly the dealer) removed the screen for & swapped it, as the car has a standard stereo and left the gubbins, or is it an aftermarket fitment left by the previous owner who did the same?

I'll take some pics tomorrow and add to the thread. I would do it today but
1) my fingers are now bleeding

and

2) I still haven't found the "Parrot" box.

any ideas?.

Hi,
What year and model is it?
I have no idea on the left-over Sat Nav etc but having had many Bug/Blob/Hawkeye WRXs i might be able to help on the Parrot location. On all these models , if you remove the Double Din unit ( by pulling off the side mouldings held on by clips, undo the 3 screws either side of the unit , and move back the gearstick gator and then the hinged cigarette lighter part ) you should find that when you pull out the unit itself the wiring harness has an extra harness with a (normally blue coloured ) box about the size of a pack of cigarettes attached. This is the Parrot unit.
I'm only speaking with experience of Subaru kits but they were all made by Parrot and had Subaru on the instructions instead of Parrot.
Hope this helps.

Hi GM

It's an 07 WRX mate.

Nice one, I'll have a look tomorrow. I think it was retrofitted as it was a very basic interface (just a button) held on with double sided tape, plus shedloads of wire taped up and stuffed away.

Cheers
Pete

My last wagon was a Hawkeye cool and it had a Parrot kit fitted ( the 1 with the red and green button either side of the volume ) Changed the head-unit on it and 99% sure it it'll be there as it gets the power and uses the speakers/sound cut-out of the stereo .
Let us know how you get on! smile

Hi,
Goldmember you were spot on, I decided to leave the unit in situe as the connections were easy to unplug by just simply removing the side panel.

Anyway, here's the pics of the Parrot box and the other stuff I found on the passenger side. Any kind of info would be appreciated, as I've not got a clue about the Satnav system, or indeed how I can utilise the Harmann Kardonn box confused

Parrot Unit

Harmann unit found on Passenger side of Stereo behind the panel, along with about £200 worth of Wire smile

Spotted an unusual box poking out behind this panel

Which when removed revealed this

Date is December 06, the vehicle was registered May 07, so no idea if it was fitted at the dealers or by a 3rd party. Here's a close up of the unit.

Anyone shed any light?

Cheers
Pete

The Harman/Kardon thing looks like an iPod interface of some sort (probably the Drive+Play system from a few years back).

Smartnav = no idea. Tracker?

I've googled Smartnav, they do a tracker system, plus a trafficmaster set up which comes with a separate screen (which would make sense as there's a patch on the dashboard where it would have been sat).

I'd be a bit annoyed if it is a tracker which I can reactivate, as I've just spunked £400 (literally this week) on insuring the bloody thing, I could've saved a bit of wedge if it had had one fitted, or if I'd have known about it.

The Kardon thingy is an Ipod interface as you say, but as I'm an Android freak I suppose it'll be left for the next owner if I ever sell it.

Well it beats finding the odd pound coin under the seat or pair of dirty knickers in the boot I suppose. smile

Sounds like you have a Type UK model... They came with Traffic Master Smartnav, Tracker and Bluetooth as standard.

Pics 3-6, are they the passenger footwell? If so, on classics at least, that's where the engine ECU is mounted.
