2001 STi JDM won't have DCCD?
Discussion
I had an UK 04 STi Impreza about 5 years ago and although good I couldn't leave it alone and over modified it to a dyno'd 350 bhp it would bog down in 6th after the power hike and my wife wouldn't get in it complaining of the noise so I sold it.
Having grown up a little I'm thinking of a less modified version now.
I am tempted to buy an 01 JDM STi, I was quite wary of Jap cars over UK spec but reading opinions on here I get the feeling JDM's are better and stronger?
If I wanted DCCD is it better to buy a latter blob eye or are DCCD conversions worth the trouble? I would prefer a bug eye for appearance but want the best mechanical spec most importantly.
If I understand DCCD correctly what % can you bias the power to the rear wheels! I saw a clip on U tube of power sliding Imprezas but they were modified further I think, is DCCD modification very easy or costly?
I would be grateful for any advice, for a max budget of £8k ish.
Also were version 8 & 9 both bug eye?

As a rule the early JDM cars were way better than their UK cousins albeit over time the cars got closer and closer in terms of Spec, performance etc. I'd always go for the JDM version as the 2 litre engine is mental

Edit - as above version nrs stopped at 6, best use Manufactured Year or MY for short. I had a MY05 STi Spec C that had the wider track.

Ohh...... 'Spec C' are there other Spec's/variants of JDM MY05 STi's. I've just been reading up on the differences between single and twin scroll turbo's; a few weeks ago I didn't know about 'wide track, DCCD, twin scroll turbos, higher revving JDM's with shorter gear ratios and stronger internals' and now I can't wait to have them.
If I can get my head round 'closed deck' engines I'll apply for a Blue Peter badge...

A few of us on Scoobynet had WR Ltd's at about the same time, think it was 07/08 ish. Only sold it as I tend to move all my cars on after 2 years max. It had some simple mods too taking power to 375hp which is real easy to get from the JDM's. Last I heard was the new owner wrecked it No experience of Hurst sorry.

After more research I was surprised to read that the twin scroll turbo cars sound different they apparently don't have the classic Subaru boxer sound? It's one of the most unique sounds and one I always wind my window down to hear, is it that different? Did it spoil the car at all?
I've read a few threads where people really struggled to find a MY05 JDM twin scroll DCCD wide track and bought a Uk spec, I'm struggling to find one in my preferred price range it seems a UK car around 50k miles is easy enough to get for under £10k yet equivalent JDMs seem to be £12+k! is it worth it and I assume a remap is needed to cope with less Ron's in our fuel which must reduce the bhp?
What do you drive now Terminator?

JDM car that now has a UK engine. The seller is well know on the Subaru forums so the car will be exactly as described.

It's true, they have equal length headers, the unequal headers are what created the majority of the traditional subaru burble.I've read a few threads where people really struggled to find a MY05 JDM twin scroll DCCD wide track and bought a Uk spec, I'm struggling to find one in my preferred price range it seems a UK car around 50k miles is easy enough to get for under £10k yet equivalent JDMs seem to be £12+k! is it worth it and I assume a remap is needed to cope with less Ron's in our fuel which must reduce the bhp?

JDM car without the JDM engine, isn't that a bit like Babs Windsor minus the tits?!http://bbs.scoobynet.com/subaru-444/994799-jdm-sti...

Thanks for this! It does tick a couple of boxes think I would prefer a JDM with the stronger engine, I do like a rear wiper though. Has anyone gone to the bother of fitting a rear wiper to a UK car?http://bbs.scoobynet.com/subaru-444/994799-jdm-sti...

I usually rush into a car once I've made the decision on the type but I'm kind of enjoying the research on STi Imprezas there seems loads more to learn (I've been stuck in BMW and TVR land for quite some time)
Question, STi's should always be run on super plus is that right can damage happen if 95 ron petrol is used I guess there's no way of telling if it has been run on 95, are there any cheap fault code readers that will show a fault code?
STi's seem to change owners frequently like most expensive to run things do, has anyone had experience importing direct from Japan I get the feeling some importers aren't well thought of and it's quite easy to hide a cars history/ mileage etc.... Was wondering if buying a good grade car direct from Japan would guarantee low owners and condition assuming it makes the journey safely...
Terminator how do you rate your 130 BMW I've not even sat in a 1 series. I rate an E46 M3 7.5/10, a Mitsubishi Evo 9 MR FQ 340 6/10, Audi S3 6/10, Porsche 996 Turbo 7/10, Porsche Cayenne 4.5s 7.5/10, TVR Griffith 5/10 (low safety rating) Land Cruiser diesel 8/10. All cars I've owned and my personal rating based on fun/practicality and what you can service/fix yourself plus good parts availability and ability to modify easily. I hate dealer resets and having to have things coded in!
I think that's why I'm coming back to Subaru it's 8.5+/10 car for my needs. There aren't any dealer reset things are there
