High Miler Advice - STI
Discussion
Hi guys,
I was looking for some advice. I am looking at moving my 172 on in the next couple of weeks and picking up an Impreza STI. Budget of around 8K.
I have been looking at an 05 DCCD

I know 91K isn't alot but I was wondering what I should look out for, is there anything that goes on these types of engine? I dont mind anything over 100k+ if it's been maintained.
At around 8K, is this one of the best models to go for?
Apologies for the nooby questions, I'm not massively clued up on Impreza's
Cheers
Chris

The 05 widetrack DCCD is certainly the one to go for, hence how well the prices are holding even at higher mileages. Will there be much of a hit if you try to move it on with 100k+ on it? Who knows.
Personally I'd go for a slightly older car with lower miles. £8k would get you one hell of a non-DCCD Blobeye.
Any owners I've asked whether they use the DCCD have usually played with it for a week then forgot about it unless on track...

Mine was £6k for a stage one non-DCCD with 73k on it in good condition but perfect mechanically. Just check for full history and ideally a new clutch fitted at some point. Service then and they'll go forever.
Don't worry about sourcing just look for enthusiast cars or reputable dealers but if you want zero hassle have a look at Palmdale who source everything. Good chap there called Ashley is happy to give advice too.

Basically a much more desirable spec. JDM cars have more power in standard trim, 8k redline, and a closer-ratio box. And much stronger engine internals which allow bigger tuning potential without spending big money.
The blobeye JDM is equipped with a twin-scroll turbo which most people rate better to drive than the UK car's single-scroll.
The Hurst car has been around for a while - perhaps there is some negotiation room in the price.

Depends on a number of variables really. Do you want to modify or looking to stay as standard as possible? Are refinement and comfort important and will you be doing a lot of motorway miles? If so then a newage car is probably the way forward although lots of people (including myself) are partial to the classics which are much lighter and more raw.
A nice Type R would probably be my pick - purchased for £4-5k with some left over for some fettling that will inevitably be required. If newage is your preference, I personally think a JDM bugeye is preferable to a UK blob at your budget.
