Just been on Andy Forrest's website , and he says these are a very worthwhile mod to do , due to superior strength , and airflow , might give it a go after all

I've also been told the Y-pipe has a better flow rate.

Not 100% conclusive for the v4 but this link gives some info http://www.autospeed.com/cms/article.html?&A=1...

"Adding the feed pipe to the intercoolers has an interesting effect. It's clear that those feed pipes with plastic convoluted sections flow very poorly - airflow through Version 2 to Version 6 WRX intercoolers dropped nearly 50 percent when the feed pipes were attached, while the Version 7 fell about 40 percent. The STi and aftermarket feed pipes show the gains that are possible by smoothing the path into the intercooler - the alloy/silicone Version 2 STi feed pipe more than halved the restriction caused by of the standard plastic part."

Hi,
I've just done a deal on a Y pipe & exhaust downpipe from an Sti which I'll be fitting to my WRX eventually. From what I can gather there's not much to be gained by fitting the "Y" on its own, but it does help when done as part of a tuning package (filter, 'zorst, remap etc).

Whether the engine would need to be mapped if fitting it just on its own, with no other mods, I'm not sure. If it leads to an airflow increase (as advertised) it might lead the engine to run lean. However, that's pure guesswork / twisted logic on my part smile .

Thanks to some good advice from the guys here (Paulmoonraker, Scoobywrx and some others) I've finally got the route I'm going to take on tuning mine. STI Downpipe, Hayward & Scott 2.5" de cat centre section & Back box, Panel filter and as mentioned, STI Y Pipe. not sure about going for a Walbro as yet, that's something to ask Duncan from Racedynamix when I book the mapping session. Tbh If I can achieve 280/340 from my 2.5 I'll be well chuffed, anything more and I'll be getting the virtual beers in.

Cheers
Pete
