On the drive home tonight my STI slipped about 1,000 rpm while in 6th at about 3,200rpm, just as boost started to really come on. This is the second time it's done it in the last few months but I can't reproduce it. Even if I put it into 4th and really push it everything is solid and doesn't show any issues at all. There's no girding or anything suggesting the gears aren't engaged it's just classic clutch slippage.

Part of me thinks that the clutch is just on the way out and it probably being the original one it's likely due but why would it do it in 6th? Am I just being struck by lightning or does this point to something else?

Clutch is definately on its way, issues can present in top gear under load as this is when the clutch is working its hardest.

What this man said. If you're buying a used car, a great test of the clutch is to put it in top and floor it from low revs as this is normally where that kind of issue presents first.

Yep and was fine for 10,000 miles since I've had it. Just one of those things but actually the first clutch I've ever had to fit in my life so not a bad innings.

I take it you are getting someone else to fit it? I am no stranger to changing a clutch but even i would think twice on a Scooby from what i have read about them!

They did this on an episode of Wheeler Dealers. Mike bought an oldish Scooby which needed a clutch, which of course Ed had to fit. It's a right palava on these cars because of the front half shafts and rear drive shaft all having to be disconnected, and then the gearbox dropped out to get to the clutch. Not something i'd fancy doign myself to be honest.

Ordered one from Aztec Performance and Scoobyworld are fitting it in a couple of weeks. £370 + £250 fitting so not too bad.

I've heard horror stories as well from a friend who had an Impreza but his situation was a bit extreme as for reasons I forget, he had to do it in the rain with two wheels on the kerb yikes
