Type r rear caliper change help
Discussion
Hi guys, recently purchased a standered sti v4 type r,intend to do some trackdays with it.Want to upgrade the braking, but have set myself a budget for each group of upgrades(breathing, suspesion, etc). The fronts are 4pot,so not going to change, just discs/pads.The rears are single pot,are they adequate or would you change them to 2pot.Ive had some conflicting quotes saying that I will need to purchase the hub with the caliper and braket,or will I get away with just the caliper and bracket. The rear disc size is 260mm upgrading to 294mm.Any recommendations for inexpensive, but quality front /rear dics and pads.Cheers
Unfortunatly mine is a single.Rung a couple of breakers.First offered the2pot caliper and bracket, the second mention about needing to change the hub also(maybe to do with the handbrake)or is he trying to get a bigger sale, does the hub need changing. Can afford Godspeeds disc/pads,but not a Brembo/AP Racing upgade.Cheers
Yep, that will bring the rears up to 290.
If you are doing track days, dont just use godspeeds kevlar pads and cheap discs. I have these all round and after a couple of big stops, they were useless. Had to cool for a couple of laps which put a bit of a downer on the day.
Dont get me wrong, Ians cheap discs and kevlar pads are fantastic for normal and what i would call light fast road. Great bite from cold.
Just because they are warrantied for track work, it doesnt make them good at it.

STI type r version 4 should have 2 pot rears as standard.
Is yours a wrx type R? Does it have an adjustable centre diff, or not? (Easiest way to tell).
Bad news is that single and two pot classic cars have different hubs, so it's as simple as some have stated.
You will need aftermarket brackets to make it work. Godspeed or as performance sell them.
Budget for about £200 all in though, for the conversion.

There were two type R specs in version 4.
The StI type r, which had the Sti red inlet engine and the electronic centre diff and the two pot rears.
There were also rarer WRX based coupes, but they had the wrx engine with its lower rev limit etc..
Both my version 4 type R definitely had the twin pot rears, which confuses me as to why yours does not.
Is it definitely a v4" with the later forester dash that has he digital mileometer (like the pics below)?
