How strong is the 3.0 H6 engine?
Discussion
Have been looking at a legacy 3.0 spec B and found out yesterday that its missing a lot of service history. Spoke to the previous owner who told me where it had always been serviced, followed up with a call to them.
Turns out it went from 1k service to 30k, then got 40k and 50k, missed 60k and is over due 70k.
Big worry for me is 29k out of the first 30 were on the same oil and filters. It seems in great condition and the guy seemed pretty genuine when I spoke to him, think he just forgot - very strange when it would invalidate the warranty...
I walked away from the car but a mate said I should use it to lower the price.
So, is the engine strong enough to cope with missing so many services or was my walk away decision the right one?

Sounds like a grey 2007 car I enquired about in the Preston area.
Don't touch with a barge poll.
Think it had a woman owner who didn't really care about servicing and I have been watching it flitting around different people trying to sell it in the last few few months. Think it had a cracked sat nav screen too. It was at 76k when I enquired.
The H6 engine requires good quality 5w30 oil every 12 months / 10k or the timing chain tensioner can be fubarred. Who knows what crap has been circulating the engine for 29k since nearly new, or whether to oil level has been topped up, as they tend to burn more oil when it degrades.
I would be patient and wait for a good one.

Yeah, I was reading his thread last night - epic :-)
Not the Preston area, car has been in Scotland all its life. The guy sounded spot on so I was seriously surprised the dealer hadn't seen it until it needed its first MOT.
Confirms my thinking, in no rush so I'll wait for a good one.
Cheers
