Removing up-pipe cat on an 02 WRX

Looks like the flexi-section on my manifold to turbo pipe has gone (again!), looking around it would appear that most people supply this pipe without a cat in it. The question is can I do a straight swap for a decat one on my PPP car without having to have it mapped again?
I wouldn't take the chance. Reckon adjustments would be required, as the cat is quite restrictive. Get it checked anyway.Get rid of the catted uppipe, it isn't required and is a restriction to more power. Sti's don't have or need them as standard. Removing it will likely make your turbo spool a little bit earlier and quicker, and may even provide a little more boost too.
It's not strictly necessary to remap your car at this stage however, modifications like a decatted uppipe can be very beneficial if mapped for.
However, even without a remap your car will still run just fine.

Thanks for the advice guys, I've chanced it and ordered the de-cat pipe. I was struggling to find a version with the cat aftermarket and lacking an even vaguely local Subaru dealer that didn't seem like an option as I'm tight on time (plus I'm guessing it would have been £££s)
Speaking with the exhaust supplier they seem to agree that the car might benefit from a map but that it should run healthily enough so fingers crossed!
