I've recently been looking at a Forester STi after many Impreza (wagon) ownerships.

Why are the Foresters so much more money, I just can't work it out?

Yeah, it's the image thing I quite like about the Fozzie, but I'm struggling to accept paying thousands more for rarity & image...

Have you thought about a Forester S/tb import? I own a '97 one and certainly did not pay thousands for it...and have seen a few of them for sale for not much more than I paid. I am very pleased with it...or are you looking for newer? smile

You mean a S-turbo? I haven't looked at them, no...

I'm not too bothered with age, but what sort of age/model are we talking about?

Thanks for the heads up

Aah, OK, so the S-turbo is the UK version, and the S/tb is the JDM with more bhp (always the better bet when going Japanese eh), and also what the STi is based on

Just need to make my mind up now whether to go Wagon or Fozzie...

Forester sti's were never sold here as a domestic model and so command much more money as do many "jdm only" cars.

I see, so the same as the JDM scooby's.

However, you can pick up a alot more JDM scooby for your money than a FSTi. I mean they're fetching £14K...!

Don't know your budget but have you considered the Legacy STI?
A tempting example?

http://classifieds.pistonheads.com/classifieds/use...

I have NO connection etc etc.

There are also two older GTB saloon models for sale on Pistonheads.

Edited to add "no connection"

Simple - supply and demand... And in this case, supply is only in the form of an import...

As a side, they are incredibly capable. I went to a car limits day in my old Impreza STi and my mates fozzie was just as quick.

The FSTi idea is cooling I have to say - £14,000 is just too strong money... so back to an Impreza wagon... OR a 3.0R n/a Leggy idea

I couldn't part with that kind of cash for one. I would get another STi along with a supply of brown paper bags and be done with.

laugh When all's said, the Scooby is lighter, more fun, and handles better out the box. Interior room is only slightly down on the rest, and I don't want to spoil the dog with too much room anyway

I have seen a few S/tb cars for anything between £1000 to £2000....So just think how many of them you could buy with £14000 smile...potentially enough for each day of the week!

Seriously though, I would recommend the Forester S/tb. It has been a while since owned a car as powerful (think it is rated at 250+ horses)and I am really enjoying the grin factor. It certainly suits my life style and the fact I live in the middle of bloomin' nowhere! I am also well impressed with Subaru as this is the first one that I have owned.....and I paid very close to the £1000 end of the £1000 to £2000 range I gave earlier!!

Anyway, good luck with what you finally choose....and please let us know how you get on with it.

Hmmm... OK, you've rekindled my interest. Was leaning towards an Impreza again. It's just the Impreza has such bad rep now, I don't think I can live it lol.

What age is yours? I'm wondering if mileage matters too much with them. They wont have had the same Impreza type abuse I wouldn't have thought

Are all the S/tb's 2.0L? Or are some of the later ones 2.5?

Mine is a 1997 and has approx. 90k miles on the clock....though it reads in kilometers. Apparently, when imported the speedos are converted to mph, but the odometer cannot be converted so remains as kms. Also, as I understand it, by converting the speedo, this breaks/removes the (electronic) speed limiter.
I think they are good for loads and loads of miles...
The engines of the Forester S/tb cars are actually Impreza engines....but with softer cams (I think...).
I am fairly sure that the S/tb import was only ever a 2.0L (and turbo'd).....but I am not 100% on that.
Hope my limited info helps. smile
