I've got a 1999 uk S-turbo. I've just had it serviced and Goodridge braided brake hoses fitted. The garage couldn't bleed the front brakes as the bleed nipples were seized solid and they didn't want to shear them off. The garage told me that if I'm not happy with the brake pedal feel, which I'm not, I'll probably need to source replacement calipers. I trust the garage, have been using them for years.

I've seen a pair of new 4 pot calipers on eBay for £165, and 294mm drilled and grooved disc with Mintex pads for £85. I'm thinking this may be the way to go. Pretty sure my car only has 2 pot fronts as standard though, is this right? My car has standard suspension and original 16 inch wheels. Will the 4 pots fit, and will I have to buy anything other than the calipers, discs and pads?

the easiest way to tell if your car has 4pot Calipers is to see if it says Subaru on the face of the Calipers. Also you'll see the outline of two round bits which as one pair of the Calipers.

my car came with them standard, but a mate changed from 2 to 4 pot front brakes on his WRX and stated a great improvement.

as far as I recall it was a straight swap. Your wheels may however not fit them.. the 16 inch size is fine, however the inner clearance might be too small. If you post a photo iI can try asking around for confirmation, even tho I'm not in the UK iI dotn believe there were many wheels we got that you didn't.

Did they try heating the bleed nipples with a blow torch. That's happened to me before and a blow torch got me out of trouble. You need to replace the bleed nipples afterwards but it's cheaper than a caliper. smile

They did, as well as freezing them and everything else they could think of, but no joy.

To be honest the brakes weren't really up to my standards anyway (hence why I was trying the braided hoses before anything else) so I'm not going to be too disappointed if I have to change the calipers, if it improves the braking.

Images of the wheel/caliper attached.

okay, they look the same as the ones I have seen on some Foresters over here. Unfortunatly, its 4am here (happy new year!) in NZ, so ill have to wait til morning, but im pretty sure another mate had a set of those rims and im pretty sure he had 4 pots...

Anyway, these are 4 pots for reference. The logo may or may not be coloured in or not however,,,

Due to spoke clearance or wheel rim clearance?

If it's the spokes could I not just fit spacers?

The 16in STI wheels pictured above are really dirt cheap to buy and come in silver. Your exiting tyres will fit on them.

And they deffo fit 4pots.

Go on ScoobyNet and ask for a set.
