About to buy-2.0 n/a Impreza. Help

yes I think the NA imprezas also have a 50k cambelt interval. It's £500 at a dealer, more like £350 at a specialist independant. To ignore it is to run on borrowed time (for a shed perhaps that's what you want?)
The non turbo imprezas and legacys are the epitomy of reliability. Not great on fuel, but just keep going. Slow though.

How much did your cambelt change cost?
August 2012, at 125,000 miles: Cambelt + water pump, also "Found clips on both breather pipes leaking on top of cam covers, repair both pipes and clean off. Road test and all OK". £313.64 including VAT.August 2011 had major service - all fluids, all filters, spark plugs, front discs and pads, rear pads, £472.49 including VAT. Small services including a minor fix or two are about £100.
Superb small local specialist - I take my Porsche 944 (to be replaced by a more family friendly Subaru Legacy when I can find a good one) and £620 Ebay Punto there as well as I have complete trust in them.

Done ours 3 times now, cars done 160k(99 plate), had it from 18 months oldSo far only replaced the belt (gates) not needed idler rollers or tensioner/ water pump.
All seemed ok when the belt was off, and spun free and quiet.
It's down to personal preference and how much you are prepared to spend, ie changing all the ilders/tensioner and water pump is what bumps the price up.
Due to a garage cock up/scam i changed my newage turbo's belt at 120k when it should have been done at 100k. Belt had been on since 50k and all the subaru markings were still on and it showed no wear at all. All rollers/tensioners were deterioration free as well. Is it safe to say that it's an engine that's not too tough on belts?
