I have learned that my downpipe flange is badly rusted (to point of being MOT failure) and whilst I could get it welded it seems like a huge hassle given I use the car every day. So...my question is will a downpipe with a sports cat a) cause any running issues as per a full de-cat? b)actually pass an MOT (centre pipe is straight through)?

Any input hugely appreciated!

Firstly what are you driving? WRX or STi? Classic or NewAge?

Its a MY00 UK Turbo with PPP, otherwise totally standard (bar the non-resonated centre de-cat pipe). Just worried a sports cat might cause issues like a full decat can.

PPP cats are usually very good and tend to get scoobs through emissions testing so if you're going to get another cat and can get hold of a used PPP cheaper than a brand new aftermarket cat then you should go for it.

You won't get through the MOT without a cat. If your car is PPP'd originally then you ought to get another PPP cat, or if you can't get hold of one of those try a 200CELL after market cat. Try and avoid 100CELL cats because more often than not they won't get you through although i've heard the odd story that contradicts that.

I have one on my car though and it doesn't get through emissions testing.

Thanks for that, though I thought that on classics the downpipe on PPP cars was just the same as a standard UK turbo?

Usually PPP conversions change the main cat to a PPP cat which is something like a 200CELL cat. Personally speaking i would just get rid of all the cats and have the one cat (main cat) to get me through emissions. Just the PPP main cat will do that.
