Never posted in this section before but after some more knowledgeable advice on a 4 door as an everyday car from you kind folks.

My currently daily (nissan xtrail) is 10 years old in a few months and been looking for a replacement - mainly 4x4s. However last weekend I went with my brother to the Subaru garage - he is thinking of changing his mazda 6MPS.

Anyway, to cut a long story short after a test run in their demo (think he said it was a 340R?) my brother is now looking elsewhere, but I thought the scoob was fantastic.

There are some excellent deals on pre-regs right now too. A standard car would probably suit me best tbh - no big spoilers or noisy exhausts really required. Dont need a 4x4 sized vehicle, but do need 4wd.

Only do about 10k miles a year, but the car will be used more or less everyday so reliabilty is essential - my xtrail has covered 107k without a single fault - and a little research suggests Subarus are more or less bullet-proof.

My brain says I should be looking elsewhere, my heart however says go for it!!

Thoughts please.

Do yaself a favour and steer clear of any newage impreza there all lardy and watered down versions of the original and none the better for it!!! Get yself a nicely sorted classic and you wont look back i promise, even better drive both and that should tell you which is better.

Good luck in the hunt.

And classics never suffered from piston issues, right?

Also, what deals are they offering on pre-reg ones at the moment?

I wasnt reffering to classics not having any issues just the fact that their the original and the best the newage cars are as already said in the previous post watered down for mass market versions and therefore not so good as a drivers car.

Well if by diluting you mean modern build and safety standards you're probably right. I loved driving the classic ones but the last one I had was a Hawkeye STI which was completely reliable and felt just fine. It was and is an exceptional drivers car. I had a long test drive in the new one and it is probably the best UK model outside of an RB320 or a RB5 for enjoyment.

Classic not for me i'm afraid - get a car allowance and one of the conditions is the car must be less than 10 years old.

The best pre-reg offer i've had so far is £25,995 but off for a 24hr test drive next saturday so will see where we can go with a bit a haggling. Subaru also have a half down, half on 0% over 2 years carrot right too.

Those are the standard deals but I'd push for a 320 pack and a spoiler at the very least. You'll love the car smile

Hello
Just noticed your thread. I've had a 320R for a year now and I love it. It's a great mix between raw and useable, although mine has only done 6k in the last year. Mine is plasma blue.

Debadge it, get the silver strip at the back coded, remove the wing, and they are actually quite subtle. People either ask me what it is, or assume I'm an unmarked copper.

I'd recommend the upgraded nav and entertainment, the Bluetooth comms work really well and the rear camera is pretty good. Keyless system is great, although I wish it was easier to set it to open all doors at once.

I can get two bikes inside the car with the seats down, plus race kit for two. It's pretty big inside, and I find it very comfy for what it is. Those seats help a lot.

I got a great price ex-demo, the car had 900 miles on it when I picked it up.
Economy wise I have average 26 mpg over the year, 50:50 fun/longer trips, which is pretty good. I have seen 30+ when I really try on a run.

Anyway, I really love it, and I've only seen one other out on the road in Hertfordshire, and none in my colour.

Hi, Just to make you aware you will not get the 0% deal on a demo or pre reg car. That deal is for new retail cars only.
