Declaring mods on insurance with PPP
Discussion
I've always declared the modifications on my car when insuring. My car came with PPP from the factory and I have the certificate to prove so. I was chatting to a customer of mine who had a scooby again with PPP and he didn't declare the PPP as it is a factory standard car but does declare his wheels, so as they ask are there any modifications to your car that aren't standard he could say no (except the weels).
Not too sure where I stand on this. I'd rather declare and be safe but at the same time feel I'm paying out extra £ for no reason. Currently costs me £900 a year all mods declared. My insurance is due in a month and I need some enlightenment from other owners.

MK4 Slowride,
I was in the same situation when I bought my Hawkeye 6 months ago.
It almost got to the stage of me talking with the dealer to remove the PPP 'cos I'm dismayed at the all these insurance companies.. Elephant/Admiral/Bell included!
THEY DO NOT recognise the PPP! They used to ( was especially handy when doing an online quote the model choice used to incorporate the PPP quoting the power 225 or 265) Now they don't
Just out of curiosity I phoned yesterday to get a quote and questioned the call-centre employee ( who was obviously in the USA somewhere ) about this. He himself knew about the PPP , and had a modded car himself , but he said you have to declare it as a modification even tho it was manufacturer/dealer fitted (altho' in my case inbetween factory and sale).
Interesting on the Intercooler pipe.. There's no-where on the Elephant modded options list!
I only know 2 companies who recognise the PPP ..
1 - Subaru Insurance , who were over £1100 for my car ( incl 11yrs NCD etc )
2 - Keith Michaels , who gave me a quote for £660 plus a bit more for an after-market panel filter.
Obviously I went for K.M. , but like you , I still feel that being over 40, in not a bad GLasgow post-code, with 11yrs NCD, I'm paying too much and being penalised extra for a it.

This might raise an eyebrow -
I had a mare finding a decent price for my 04 with PPP
hours on the phone explaining what PPP was and that it was on from new
having to phone back the next day to one, emails, online quotes etc etc
Then I got a call from Aviva (after a telephone quote the day before) asking how I was getting on with the quotes
Not good I said and then I had to go on and explain it all again
She then asked if I had the PPP put on, no I said, its been on from new, already told you all this
Oh well, it doesn't matter if you didn't have it done - £330. Me: I'll have it (42 5ncb 1 claim no points)
I did explain it went from the dealers for the PPP and then collected by the owner, not a manufactured fitting.
So, get a quote of Aviva and wait for them to phone back

I had a quick look at quotes for these a few weeks ago as I'm giving serious thought to buying one. On autotraders comparison site link it was listed as a separate model, so I just got quoted for that and didn't list mods and didn't really think much more about it.
I would think if its listed as a separate model then you wouldn't need to declare it as clearly they already know the difference, if its not listed then I guess you would need to mention it.
Glad someone asked this as I hadn't even given it a thought. Might have to run a few with and without mods and see if it still comes out at a sensible price.
