I am also anxiously waiting for it, my winter tyres on going on this weekend. Although I now work in a car park full of bmw's so I am going to have to dodge them spinning in circles to get out of work!

Just make sure you have winter tyres as on normal ones the impreza will get up and going well in the snow but it won't stop or steer, from experience

I predict one of the coldest and longest winters on record!! You heard it here first folks!!

Better get that spare battery looked out and charged up, and your cars kitted up for the winter with warm clothes and blankets. Those of you with the winter boots on...fair play to you!!

Having said all this and figuring in sods law, it wouldn't surprise me if we get a frickin heatwave!! hehe

Nah it was in the papers a few days ago that we are due a very cold one.

anyway are a couple of pics of my beastie (on summer tyres) to go with the thread. Was a cold day. Even on the roads with clear tarmac I was getting wheelspin in 2nd.

I too have heard this from a number of indepent pro-am forecasters predicting a proper cold winter 2012-2013. Here in the Arctic climes' of Oxfordshire we normally get some white stuff and have had a fair dumping over the past years. A few weeks ago bought a spare set of wheels with winter tyres that have covered only 500miles...the chap I bought them from was a great guy who'd recently bought himself a Forester and was itching for the snows to arrive.

Two years ago I remember many Range Rover drivers with town tyres seriously stuck in their £80k mobile drinks cabinets...and to be frank, there's nothing more dangerous than a 2.5tonne out-of-control brick hurtling towards you. I carry snow chains when snow's predicted and, if needed, pop them on and press on regardless. I highly recommend we all do this...buy a proper pair of diamond pattern chains...they'll take you anywhere.

Ref' heatwave...suggest we carry Hawaiian shirts and Pinacoladas just in case wink

That's cool. The humble Subaru looks so at home in the ice and snow.

I think we should arrange a PH Subaru 3 day long weekend hoon to Finland or Iceland and take our cars snow/ice driving.

Lovely lovely pictures!

This will be my first winter of scoob ownership and I've already got my winter tyres on. This is the first year I've not been dreading snow.

Depending on what model you have I'd pull the fuse for the ABS - it's the only really downside to driving an Impreza in the snow as the ABS cuts in very quickly.

With winter tyres on they are nigh on unstoppable from my own experience, enjoy... smile

I wouldn't be pulling my ABS fuse for the snow. Specially not when your rear end keeps wanting to overtake you when applying the brakes.

I'd leave it on IMHO.

My 22B (without ABS) stopped much better in the snow than my RB5 with the ABS intact - never had an issue with the back trying to overtake the front as you describe, hence why I made the suggestion.
