Well guys, think I have the start of my rear shocks beginning to fail.
I have a 55 plate wagon.
Reversing last week, heard a small crack. Investigated and when shaking the wheel back and forth, I could feel play. Pushing down on rear suspension I could also feel something loose.
I tightened up the strut bolts at the rear, passenger side, and it did make a slight difference, as the play in the wheel was gone.

So, I think they are on there way out. What's my options on suspension, and what would you guys do?

This is a daily runner, and may eventually do the odd trackday. Hard suspension don't really faze me, as have had a FD2, which was mega hard, plus my lotus.
Just don't wanna be spending a fortune on the car?

Cheers

Get some Bilstein dampers and Eibach springs. Will transform the handling. Won't be too hard either which is better for crappy potholed and rippled UK roads, and better for everyday driving generally.

If you can stretch to it get some solid ARB drop links and a thicker rear anti roll bar with uprated bushes to sort out body roll.

If your pockets are even deeper get the same Bilstein/Eibach setup for the front, solid ARB drop links but leave the ARB standard.

Your car will be much better to drive on your average B-Road, comfortable on the motorway and improve your track day fun.

Thanks guys.
Will probably go the cheaper route at the moment, ie the kayaba 34 series rear shocks and keep the standard springs. Not working at the mo, so can't shell out to much.
Will get some camber bolts and get the car set up when the new shocks are in place.

Thanks for the info. So now, is it quite an easy job to replace the springs onto these new shocks. I have spring clamps, only ever done this on a ford previous.

Thought about it, bugger it, got the full set of http://www.camskill.co.uk/m10b0s2713p30304/KAYABA_...
And some apexi lowering springs, and some camber bolts.

Just need to work out how to fit the boogers.

Dead simple.
LIft car.
UNdo top mounts (3 bolts each)
Undo hub knuckle /shock leg (2 bolts each)
Remove strut.

COmpress spring.
Remove top mount (1 bolt)
Remove spring + Decompress carefully.
Swap bump stop and gaitor over onto new shock
Put new spring on + compress a bit.
Put top mount on.
Torque up.
Release spring gently and seat it correctly.
Bolt new strut onto car.

Repeat X4.
