My Type R currently doesn't have a cat (according to previous owner it has never had one since he owned it) and I have my MOT next month. I have an email from VOSA stating that it will need an cat for the MOT (possibly just so it passes the minimum emissions test?) but will not need one afterwards. I can copy/paste the email if needed.

Bearing this in mind, how do people normally get their imports MOT'd without cats? Do they normally have a spare cat they fit just for the MOT? Is it possible/common to borrow/rent a cat from the garage doing the MOT.

Anyone know of an 'Impreza-sympathetic' MOT tester in the Gloucestershire area?

Your car will have had a cat at some point. Even the first Imprezas back in 1992 had them.

I have the original cat for mine that is replaced for Mot and then removed again. Its a right royal costly pain in the arse, but its the only way to do it.

It seems that knowledge of de-cat friendly Mot centres is akin to being in the masons. Very few people "in the know".

Hundreds of these cars are sitting in bits on shelves now, so a used cat is not going to be difficult to find if you need one.

Yeah I know the car will have to begin with but wondered how he got it past the MOT each time, he must have known one of these ethereal 'friendly testers' I keep hearing about.

lol indeed.

It seems the following might be an option although I hear the O2 / lambda sensors have different ports for different years is this the case?
