Hello,

I am on the market for an impreza wagon and have looked at this today:

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2012...

Still got to wait for mine to sell so wasn't going to buy it today. But I may if it's still there when mine sells.

Good Bits:

Tidy body work
Tow ball (for my bike rack)
Its from a subaru dealer
2 owners
hpi clear
Looks like full subaru history
cambelt done in 2009
Completely standard
Side skirts are already colour coded.
7k until next service

Not so good:

Cambelt needs doing in 27k/2 years (atleast it's been done but I'm going to have to change it as I aim to keep this a while)
The 4 tyers were about 60-70% worn
It's completely standard ;-)
The rear bumper has light bubbling in the paint across about 60% of it. Is this normal?

It's up for 4995 and although the salesman said a deal could be done it would have to have atleast £600 off for me to be tempted.

What do you guys reckons. The real bonus is that this is only 10 miles away from me.

Also, could anyone shed any light on what the green light is on picture 4 next to the fog light switch?

Thanks

Can't see the pics at the moment, is it an import? Additional light/switch could be fog light.
Bubbling bumper I've not seen, maybe respray not done too well?

What mileage is it? It might be coming up to a clutch change, also not sure but some of the blobeye/hawkeye have rear suspension woes, not sure what type it is as can't see the pics.

Looks like warning light for towbar to let you know it's working

You'll know if its the right car as soon as you drive it. If you do take the next step, I would haggle with the salesman, get him to drop the price even more and put the rest of the cash towards the cambelt. Sell the towbar and get a local SMART repairer to sort out the bumper. It'll start looking 'normal' in no time. Good luck

Any 8 year old car that is being sold at a main dealer is going to be at the better end of what is available.

Personally I would pay the asking, but ask them to replace the tyres. Tyres are always more expensive than you imagine. The cambelt is long enough away as to make it a bit irrelevant talking about now.

I would imagine there are not many others at this age in the main dealer network, which could mean two things.

a) It is an especially nice example plus a Subaru warranty means it will sell quick, and this thread is pointless.

b) It is very expensive compared to all the same age/mileage examples, and wont sell for ages.

I'm guessing "a" because if it was over priced I imagine you would know this and wouldn't be interested in it.

Could be an additional immobiliser?

Front and rear fog switches are to the right of the green light.

Simpsons are a good dealer. The car looks standard. Given what you could end up with outside the dealer network at this age and price I know where I'd rather put my money. In my experience of them they are always happy to come to a deal too.

I sold my 2004 (actually a MY05 build date) wagon, with leather and PPP and 10k miles less than that for £4950 last week! It was a facelifted car too (different interior)
Perhaps that's why the buyer near enough bit my hand off.

Check the 8th digit in the VIN code, if it's a "5" then it's an MY05 build date car and it may well have the inverted shocks which fail. It looks like it's a pre face lift car though, so probably won't have them.

Great cars though. Get it mapped and you're laughing.
