Cheap imprezas... too cheap...!?
Discussion
Hi
Right, I was looking for an Audi A3 quattro. However it seems impreza turbos can be had for my budget. I know which I would prefer.
There are lots to choose from and this surprises me... is this because people just cannot afford to run them, or once they get to 80,000 miles+ they are unreliable?

If you search this Subaru sub-forum you will find many threads with the answers you're looking for as regards any problems to look out for, what not to buy etc etc....
The words Subaru and unreliable are rarely used in the same sentence.
Properly looked after these cars will do interstellar galactic mileage without any problems.

Their price reflects their cheap initial purchase price. When the pound / yen was favourable they were a fraction of the cost of an A3 Quattro, hence their typically lower price now.
Just beware though that many of the lower priced ones for sale have been run by people who can afford to buy one, but not run one. Generally they are a very reliable car, but like all cars, thrashed to death from cold with little mech sympathy will take its toll; and they are a favourite of the type of person who does this.

This was my concern, I am hoping to find a standard/unmodified example. However its quite difficult! Most have been modded. Thanks for the reply!!
There are plenty of unmolested cars around and there are plenty of well modified and looked after ones too, you just need to look around. PH classifieds is a good place to start. As much as i might hate ScabbyNet it's not a bad place to look. You can see who's selling what and go back through their thread history to see where they are coming from. a bit of pre-vetting the seller before you buy.
You just need to follow the tried tested and proven formula for buying the best that you can for the money you have available.
Full service history by main dealer or indie specialist, needs to drive well and feel planted when you pressing on, listen out for knocks and clangs you wouldn't normally expect to be there, overall exterior condition.
Something that might be a deal breaker is look at the seller and ask yourself after you've been speaking with him a while, if he looks/sounds like the kind of person that looks after their car.
If he's a real enthusiast you can always tell and they are generally the kind of people you should be buying from because they will have looked after their car properly and have a no expense spared attitude to their car. The car will be immaculate and drive like it just left the factory.

If they are a real enthusiast, then:1 - they will bore the tits off you
2 - it's likely to drive nothing like it did when it first left the factory

Mein Porsche ist sehr quietschende, könnten Sie schmieren bitte?
Couple of years back, a guy at work was selling a nice 240 bhp estate with 95 K on the clock, and he was meticulous with maintenance. He would have taken £1400 for this, but I could not justify Third Party Only insurance over £800 (I'm 45 Full NCB but with 3 points and an accident to my recent record)
I still do regret that decision a bit

Which model are you looking at? Classic, bugeye or blob?
The budget will get me a classic. That's all I can tell you, I know so little about the specific models.I think a version 1, or version 2?

Something like that would be perfect I think thats a version 2?

Version 5, phase 2 actually. Version 6 wheels in the UK are 6 spoke.
Off to get my anorak
I don't think gold wheels were an option on UK cars (except special editions) so he probably bought them afterwards. As the car has colour coded mirrors and door handles and the revised front bumper, I'll stick with V6 Off to get my anorak
For the OP, this might be useful http://www.scoobypedia.co.uk/index.php/SidcFaq/Sid...

Wheels and car parts could be painted/purchased at any time. What revision was made on the bumper between V5 and V6?Gassing Station | Subaru | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
