Non Turbo Imprezas - Talk to Me!
Discussion
You should get 30-35mpg maybe more, depending on how you drive it. Not being turbo you aren't trying to force shedloads of fuel in along with shedloads of air so will be economical relatively speaking.
They make c.135-150bhp so won't be that slow even when loaded.
Not a bad choice of car if you just want something with 4x4 security, easy DIY servicing and capability to do reliable galactic mileage without complaint. Nothing wrong with that.

I put a thread on here asking for opinions on a 1.5 hatchback and was told to avoid it like the plague!!
I'm looking for something reliable with 4wd and not bothered about doing 0 to 60 in 6 seconds or whatever.
On a different note I always thought Soob engines were the toughest most reliable engines out there but I keep reading about Big ends going and having to change the oil every 3000 miles + you should only use the expensive petrol, sounds like allot of hassle to me are they really that bad?

You've been reading too much nonsense and hearsay instead of asking owners questions. Better to go direct to the source. You are right though, they are probably the toughest and most reliable 4-pot engine on the planet. With the non-turbo engines there's even less to worry about than a turbo engine.I'm looking for something reliable with 4wd and not bothered about doing 0 to 60 in 6 seconds or whatever.

The 1.5's are not a great choice. Wheezy engines doing a lot of hard work and having to be worked hard to get anything out of them. Stick to a 2.0Lt old shape non-turbo GX and you won't go wrong. Get the 5dr sportwagon and they're even more practical.
