Just a quick one following on from page 4 and 5 of this thread: http://www.pistonheads.com/xforums/topic.asp?h=0&a...

In 3 years it has not once happened to me but apparently it happens to some people "all the time". I have had BMW/Audi repmobiles a couple of m3's but never a "chav in a saxo/corsa etc"

Just wondering if it happens in your Impreza?

Only once in 4 years. An orange ST with Burberry clad driver (I know, I know, you couldn't make it up). Anyway, I reved the engine really hard, and then when they went green pulled away slowly. He sped off and collected 3 points at the hidden speed camera...

Round my way we get a number of very nice Supercars. I'm amazed they are even bothered by my old shed when i pull up beside them but they seem to be because they start with the revving (Ferrari and Lambo do sound lovely though so i don't mind) and off they go. I love watching them pull away at a rather high rate of leptons, the sight and sound is amazing.

I also get this a lot from Audi drivers especially but never a Corsa or Astra, clio etc....

There was a young lady once in a very nice looking Black scoob STi that pulled away very sharpish form the lights which i didn't expect and there was no revving or drama. Thereafter i obliged by quickly catching her up and showing her the virtues of my little 20G. I know i shouldn't but i couldn't resist.

Very childish yes, but i'm not getting any younger!! hehe

Although that sounds like a quality story and like he was clearly a true chav, it is kind of a car that could have a tussle.

Thinking more like 17years olds driving absolute whoopers with fart cannon exhausts rather than a guy of dubious taste who thought he'd try and play.

He he I have to say that as the car most likely to try anyone off the lights is a Scoobie. Most likely to get thrown/told off on track days, scoobies for racing each other (at least what i have seen).

If a Sabaru can keep up with a 911 from the lights what happens to the Saxo? Walk of shame?

Don't agree, sorry. Perhaps old knackered 1K classics, but not decent examples... Also, in my experience it's BMW drivers that are a pain in the arse at track days...

exactly the same thing happened to me except he was driving a white vw lupo. its a route i do regularly. it was an overt camera too how he didnt see it ill never know. gets better. it had a wide body kit 4 exhausts and a roll cage. why you need a roll cage in north london is anyones guess.

other than that only ever been challenged by some lads in a 2010 bmw 320d.

dont know if its just me but ive never risen to a challenge so to speak. cant be arsed.
people should really know what their car is comparable to so you dont get embarrased

I have to agree with mr moonraker on this one. I tend to drive like a little old lady most of the time I am out, mainly because I don't need to gun the throttle everywhere I go and because I like to look after my car. If I need to go for it I can but I know I don't need to prove anything as its reputation preceeds it. It was not that long ago I was overtaken by a little old lady in a silver Micra who looked rather cross as I wasn't traveling at warp speed and was holding her up!!

It is the older, cheaper cars that have gained the reputation as proved by my 21 year old neighbour in his classic who loved to tell me stories of how many cars he beat last night. We have all been there of course but many of us are not there now and when we were there it was in XR2's and 3's.

And no, I don't get Saxo's etc trying to race me, its usually the more powerful stuff that tends to have a go?????

On a recent trip to the Monaco GP via the Alps EVERYTHING was trying to "have a go", it honestly got really irritating!

I tend to find that is the rep mobiles on NSL/DC etc that want to try and prove something... But mine is a Legacy GT, so not the same image as the Impreza I suppose, must just be they look in the mirror and see a bonnet scoop and thing they should be in front!

If it made sense perhaps wink Do you not mean 'think', and also who 'thinks' they should be in front?

redface Oh yeah!! Ha! see what i did there! Oh and they "think" they should be in front! redface

(I was mainly referring to a single carriageway, going to dual and them keeping left, but gunning it to try and keep you from passing! Normally a diesel Audi/BMW etc)
