where to find a RB5...
Discussion
So I am having a baby girl in July.
The missis wants a "cool" 4 door car.
I suggested a RB5 (always wanted one but could'nt afford insurance 5 years ago) and she said ok.
now where are they all dammit!
Any help or suggestions please.

I think you might need to rethink your £4k spend.

You can pick up a high mileage STi RA V Ltd or P1 for less than either of these two.
You aren't going to get a nice RB5 for £4k and even if you do find one it won;t be great.
Sure we can't tempt you into a newage??

Sold my WR sport a couple of months ago for what you have to spend, it was high mileage but it was mint and full service, 3 Cambelt changes, AP brakes and a huge amount of TLC.
There is a thread for it in readers car if you search for rb5 WR sport.
They are out there you just need to look and hold out for the right one as there are some dogs!
I don't think you need to pay on RB5OC, just register to see the for sale section?
If you can get on put a wanted post up.
Just watch out for rust, some have it very bad beyond repair.
I also have a newage WRX wagon with ppp (and a spec c type ra) but between the RB and the wagon I know which I would go for and it doesn't begin with W and end with X.

I let this go for 4k and it's far from a dog:

The prices are all over the place, people want big money for low mileage examples others are asking ok money for dogs that are rusted, modified and no service history. If you have the time and willing to wait you could get a good one, however I admit they are very few and far between.

RB5's like that for £4K are as rare as rocking horse droppings, in fact you may have more luck winning the lottery. http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=18&...

If it drives as well as it looks (and that teeny bit of rust is nothing) then it's definitely a missed opportunity for you and a very rare find for whoever bought it.
104K miles on the clock on a fairly standard car that's as well looked after as that is nothing and will probably do the same again without a problem, again if looked after.
Are you gutted you didn't buy it? Good luck finding another!!
That was mine, it did go aswell as it looked and the rust was sorted.
I had the opportunity to buy a spec c type ra so took the decision to sell the RB5.
The original plan was to keep the RB and get a spec c but I found an RA version so needed the extra funds and needed to move quick so priced the RB to sell.
A rare opportunity for the guy who bought it from me I admit, but if you have the time they do come up every now and again.

This is all good to know. Not that I am selling mine, but I have a relatively high mileage (125k), pretty much standard (except rear 2pots), and a full service (mostly subaru) history. I know you would only get as much as someone thinks it is worth, but I paid a premium to get an RB, knowing what it was, and hope someone else would.
I'd like to think I wouldn't sell to someone who didn't know what it was. I have kept it standard, and for the money I paid I could have bought an import and spent the extra turning it into a monster. But, I wanted an RB5, and have done since I first saw one in '99. I love it, and is the only car I have ever truly wanted to own at some point, and I'm glad I have had the opportunity to own one. I just hope I can keep it for a bit longer, what with the fuel prices and the impending need to buy a house?!
