97-98 cars have two cats, one in the downpipe and one just after the center pipe. I imagine they probably had a similar setup.

The above diagram is the perfect explanation of the situation, because the car is. 1993 and not a uk car it's very unlikely that there would be an EXACT MATCH in the analyser database so they are duty bound to perform a non cat test, however it is not as simple as that as some mot stations will just put in the nearest match and then tell you it's failed and will argue till their blue in the face that they put an exact match in for your car.
Find yourself a freindly mot station, give the car a really hard blast Before the mot so it's nice and warm so should be ok on emissions.

If you want to fit a lightweight flywheel you better fit an uprated clutch as well and you've got to be talking £400-£600 for both depending on who makes them, and then there's maybe £300-£400 labour to fit them.
£700-£1000 all in then. You could always just buy and DIY to save the dosh.
