My wifes '55 Forester 2.5XT has got auto-levelling headlamps and the sensors are on the fritz. Subaru have quoted nearly £1500 + fitting for the new loom sections (because the connectors are fecked), the sensors and the brackets that tie on the suspension arm because they have rusted through.

I've been trying to find replacements from breakers but without any luck.

I took the car to an independant garage who have manually set the headlight level but they can't put out the warning light on the dash. He reckoned that it might be possible to remove the error code from the body control module which would put the light out.

Can anyone confirm if this is possible?

Cheers

This is a tough one.

I'd have said there is probably a way to wire in some new sensors to a new bit of loom with new bracket.

I think the Subaru dealer option sounds not only very expensive but a bit unnecessary and extreme. I'm willing to bet an auto electrician could sort something out for you on that score.

As for turning off the dash light via the body control module, the answer is not sure. The same as you can get rid of some Engine/ECU related check engine lights from the ECU, you can't do them all because regardless of what option you tick in the ECU software some just won't turn off no matter what.

I've just had a look through the Factory ROM image for your ECU and things like transmission Control unit and other control units have entries which are selectable. Whether or not the control module entries correspond to your BCM is one thing and whether or not it can be turned off regardless of being selected is another.

Sorry i can't be of any more help than that at the moment.
