I'm picking up a 2003 Impreza WRX tomorrow, and as a new owner, I'm looking at all the Subaru forums and wondering which ones are worth looking at and which ones to avoid.

Where does everyone sugggest?

I'm not new to Japanese cars by any means, but this is my first Subaru, which I'll be working on myself when necessary so only the best forums will do!

Thanks. smile

Scoobynet is full of people who can't type - but there is some useful information buried away in there.

SIDC (Subaru Impreza Drivers Club) is slower than death. About 10 posts a day it seems.

I'm still struggling - NASIOC is about the best resource there is ,and Subaru forester.org actually has lots of advice on the Impreza too, but they're american/international so YMMV.

Thanks for that, I've just realised I haven't changed my location though. I moved to Newcastle over two years ago. whistle

I'll have a look there. Ta.

My background is MR2s, so I'm used to using a few very good forums. I did think there would be similar ones out there for the Imprezas since there are so many of the cars about...

Despite the aforementioned people who can't type, Scoobynet does have a huge amount of useful information on it. I think it's been around for quite a few years now, so running a search for anything on there always seems to turn up some useful views.

I also go on Scoobycity occasionally.

.....and don't forget this very good Subaru sub-forum at Pistonheads.

It's only going to get busier and busier as more and more subaru owners become increasingly disolusioned with the same old crap, nonsense and universal bhing you keep getting on forums such as Scabbynet and the like.

It's nice here yes

This is a good forum - less of the chav element than you get on some other forums. Car specific forums can make for dreadfully dull reading as the same threads come up over and over again, they can be very good for in-depth technical knowledge.

If you are in Newcastle you are in good company. There is a Subaru club that meets at Revolution Performance in Dunston (about 5 minutes from the Metrocentre) but they seemed a rather droll bunch when I was looking at their cars last time I was in there looking at exhausts.

Cheers guys.

Yup Pistonheads is always a good read. Always someone who can answer a question.

I probably won't bother with the other forums too much unless I have a problem with the car. Too many forums can get tedious anyway and I still post on IMOC so I don't want anymore of my time taking up talking about random crap!

Anyway, since there is a Subaru specific area here, that'll do for me.

As an aside, I picked the car up tonight and it drives very well indeed. Hopefully should be very happy with it. I'm heading to Manchester (via Leicester) over the weekend so I should have plenty of time to shake it up a little and get used to it. I'll post some pics of it when I get back next week. smile

Scoobynet does seem to have had it's fair share of idiots sign up recently, but there are alot of helpful and very knowledgeable posters on there. Also some good 'how to' guides OP if you do want to do some basic maintenance yourself.

Since your up in newcastle try TTS (Tyne Tees Scoobies) I'm a member there. Shame, you just missed an excellent run out at the weekend frown

Few decent runs out this year already. Beats standing around in a freezing carpark biggrin

For THE best technical advice go to 22b.com. Over 50% of the regular users are tuners/mappers/engine builders and have first hand experience not regurgitated internet gossip.

Just don't ask for advice on your new dump valve.

I rather like Scoobynet, its good for some advice if you can distinct bewteen the genuine and the schpiel! But its a good community, have met loads of people through it and made some quality freinds over the last two years. We attend Track days and local events, you get what you put into it really. Also they have a marketplace which has been pretty handy lately.

All the best and welcome to Pistonhead scooby section!

Scoobynet used to be brilliant. I joined in 1999 and watched the place grow into one of the best car forums on the web, but then sometime late last decade it all went wrong with a series of major issues between the owener/mod team and the user base culminating in it being bought out by Internet brands.

Now it is a shadow of its former self and most of the new users can't string a sentence together and IMO the moderation is a joke. All the good info is still there, just be prepared to wade through reams of text speak, idiots asking about 'slamming their Scoob' and VTA dump valves and don't try and have fun as the moderators don't like it, it takes the focus awy from them you see!
