Hello all,
Have an rb5 number 112
Its got a bad oil leak that seems to be coming from the back of the engine inbetween the engine and gearbox - am thinking rear main oil seal or breather
My question is whether to remove engine OR remove gearbox
Does anyone have any experience of either method and any useful tips to doing this at home ?

If you're going to remove the gearbox get the car up in the air on a ramp and use a gearbox jack. If you're doing it on the floor make sure you have a gearbox lift/trolley or something to put the gearbox on and roll it out as it is heavy. I have to say it's not a job i would want to do on the floor.
Engine out is quick and easy too, so you can have totally unfettered access to the main bearing and check for any other leaks etc...
Always best though to have access to a ramp.
