right, my key fob has snapped where the ring goes through,i drilled a hole and that soon broke out.

so...

where else is safe to drill a hole to put the keyring through?

its a PITA at the moment as i have to carry the key and the fob separately and i keep forgetting where i leave it.

i'm just not sure where abouts inside the circuit board is.

Take it apart.

Just need a thin bladed knife, bit of patience and brute force.

Don't rush it or turn your hand into a kebab. Simples!! smile

ETA: Your other option is to get chemical metal, mix loads and splodge it on top of the fob where it's broken. I assume you have a spare in which case sand, smooth and shape the hardened blob into the same shape as your spare fob.

i dont have a spare cry

didnt think of the liquid metal idea. i think i'll try that.

worried that if i try and split it as you mention, i'll break it properly and be carless and then get stung for whatever subaru chage for one.

cheers.

I run a bugeye and have the Sigma 30 Alarm with those very same keyfobs. I've had the car 7yrs and the only thing i've had to do is change the batteries. My loops have never broken.

Obviously Pidsy has.....Big hands!!

just managed to split the fob. drilled the hole (took batteries out as a precaution).

put it back together, go to car, press button:

3 flashes, no unlocking or un-immobilising.

now i am stuffed.

HELP!

edit to add:

i am a moron. local subaru can recode it for £100 and i have to get the car to them.
hmmm, open to ideas.

Chemical metal was your friend rolleyes

You should be able to lock/unlock the car via the ignition key.

To the right of the steering column there is a stowage tray. You can pull this out gently and behind it there is a keypad. This is the alarm keypad. On your keyfob was there a little metal tag. If so there should be a 4 digit number on it. Tap in the number and that should turn the alarm off. If it isn't right don't go tapping in different numbers because you only get so many goes before you ahve to wait for it to reset itself before you can tap in any more numbers.

Now you can drive the car and get your fob sorted.

There is also another way to programme your keyfob yourself via the keypad but it's a bit more complicated a procedure. I have the instructions for this if you get stuck.

ok, my key for has no little metal sticker. i have no idea what my original code is, if i unlock the car with the keys the alarm just goes off for 5 mins until it stops.

i definitely win the award for most tttish thing done today.

i am going through the car paperwork folder to see if theres anything in there with the original details on.

i have found some pretty extensive info on recoding my fob myself, but i cant do that until i find my original code.

furious

thanks for your help mate, i'm now not sure what to do!

If you can't find the code then you have no option but to either trailer the car down or tow it to a Subaru stealership and give them the £100 to do the programming.

All i would say to you is i just hope you haven't buggered your keyfob so they won't be able to program it. If so then you're going to have bite the bullet and buy a new one.

£42 each for Keyfobs, Do yourself a favour and buy two. Get them both done at the same time and save yourself a lot of future grief smile

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SUBARU-SIGMA-ALARM-REMOT...

P.S. Subaru should be able to either read your code using their equipment or find out what the code is from Sigma alarms using your Vin Number.

You could get them to do that and pay for the pleasure, whatever it costs without taking the car down. you must take ID, proof of address and log book. Once you have your code you can program 2 new fobs yourself.

my local subaru dealer are saying that "subaru do not keep a record of original codes for security purposes" basically forcing me into having them do all the work.

found that the fob is unprogrammed not buggered, apparently 3 flashes means it needs coding.

might try a different dealer or sigma direct.

thanks again - will be buying 2 fobs.

My local Subaru stealership are very good. They would contact Sigma on my behalf and ask them for the code. I've always found them to be pretty fair that way and have always bent over backwards to help out. It's where i get all my cars MOT'd.

Your local stealer though seems not to be quite so obliging because as you say, there's more money in charging you to get it done.

I'd have a bloody good look for that alarm code. If you can find it you are sorted!!

No code. Which is a pain!!!

Its my own fault tbh and i will have to bite the bullet and sort it. Im not going to take it to my local dealership out of principle now. Found a place in finsbury park who will sort it, give me a second fob, service the alarm and recode it all for £120.00

Just need to get it recovered the 12 miles there.

Used to live on the Seven Sisters Road very close to Finsbury Park.

I have to say that is a good deal. If you know anyone with an A-Frame or Tow pole that will do, bung them a few quid. There must be some one man band recovery bods around. Good luck with that.

Oh yeah....Afterwards go see a tattoist and have the alarm code inked somewhere on your body!! hehe

Right, after a long day - being messed about with hugely by my breakdown company i must say a huge thank you to finsbury car audio!

Its been harder than they thought but i now have 3 working sigma fobs and a new master code (i am also £170 lighter, but thats my own fault).

Big thank you to scoobiewrx for all your help!

I now know not to mess around with immobiliser fobs again.

Excellent news. These days nothing is cheap but when you consider what a main stealership would have charged for everything you've had done i'd say you got a bargain.

3 keyfobs....Great idea!! I just hope you have a spare ignition key as well :hehe;

Really? I bought a fob from ebay for £30 (which is an updated sigma design) and my local Subaru dealer (SGT) programmed it for a tenner.
