What are my options?

Just about out of warranty and maybe it's time to tune.

What are my options if I don't want to change hardware.

Totally standard at the moment, 39k just serviced and cambelt changed today.

the gb270 isnt a bad setup, the main gain on the standard car wihtout changing the hardware when mapped is the torque.. it usually goes to around 330~340lb torque.. which is what puts you in the back of the seat when you drive it.

The standard cat is fairly good.. I have seen 280bhp/340lb totally standard with remap.

example although this one had a sportscat fitted

and a decatted one

I have been out in a mapped GB270 running the figures suggested. Very quick and the torque was impressive. My only comment would be perhaps consider an STi if you think you may want to modify further.

Yes although an sti turbo and intercoolers not that expensive and then with a remap you have as quick a wrx as a mapped sti

Is the engine on the Hawkeye WRX as strong as the STi, or is that an irrelevance at these power levels?

Sorry guys been at work all day.

Extra torque sounds great plus a tweak of extra HP, perfect!

I've heard that a map could smooth out the power delivery and increase mpg also? Just internet chat or true?

Next question would be who to do it?

I'm based in East Devon, not exactly the centre of the tuning industry.

Extra torque is where you're going to gain economy, not horsepower. The more low down torque the less you have to press the loud pedal for the same effect, and the less fuel you use.

My Sti engined Bugeye WRX with 360ftlb torque is significantly better on fuel than when it was just a plain old WRX.

Same strength wise. The differences are very sutble and dont effect strength.

Tuned a wrx back in 2007 to 420bhp and it is still running on orignal engine.

I was never confident that my GB270 would take much fettling. The EJ25 lump was not Subarus best effort. I'd be more inclined to look for a 2 ltr STI, if it was me. I had a MY 05 blob eye STI. That always felt like a better package to me.

I have an 06 WRX with a de-cat and sport cat that JGM mapped about 3-4 years ago now. When it went on the rollers at powerstation it gave figures of 282bhp and 320lb. Those are pretty good figures obtained on a hot day so it could be a little higher than that, but the car does feel pretty good for it even all this time on.

I go out on runs from time to time with other far more powerful imprezas and have no problems in keeping up at all.

I have considered bigger power a few times but on twisty A-roads there is little difference between a car with 300hp and 400hp so there isn't much point.

You won't see as big an improvement as I did as yours is already mapped but you will see better figures and feel the differencebiggrin

Found a very local garage with 2 rolling roads, an old school engineering shop out back and a love of Scoobies and Old Skool Fords.

Both a bit of me so will go and see them and see what they have to say.

Thanks for the travel offer JGM but I'll be happier keeping it local. Can actually cycle to this place and they seem to have a good local rep.

You say they have a love of Scooby's and Fords, but are they a Scooby Specialist and do they use EcuTek or Open Source remapping tools?

If neither then IMHO you're better off going to see a Scooby specialist.
