Taking the morette's off my bugeye WRXD shortly (been on the to-do-list for about a year now!) and putting on some stock bugeye headlights.

Now I don't need to be able to attract all the moths from miles around but what would be a decent set of bulbs to put in just so night driving is a bit more tolerable? The light from the morettes was frankly embarrasing.

Are the standard lights any good with normal bulbs or is it worth spending a bit more on some nightbreakers or similar?

Recommendations welcome... smile

My WRX bugeye headlights with the standard halogen efforts were just awful. I'd be better off with a candlelit lantern.

I would either fit the Phillips Extreme White or something like the RING 120% Ultima H4 bulbs to stay legal.

If you don't want to be legal then PIAA do some 80/100 H4 bulbs. Illegal but bright like the sun hehe

Thanks Scoobie - legal is best, don't do a lot of night driving so will look at the "posh" bulbs.

Had resorted to driving round with the morettes on full beam and the alignment switch set to full load and no one flashed me to say they were too bright. whistle

Looking forward to getting the lights done as prefer stock look - plus think I've got the CEL coming on in 4th gear so hoping the morettes will pay for any work needed!

If you can borrow or buy a cheap handheld OBD code reader, you might be able to save yourself dosh in the long run by identifying the error code(DTC) that's making your CEL come on and potentially fixing it yourself if it's just a sensor, before you go to the trouble and expense of visiting and paying for a Subaru dealer or specialist to diagnose the problem.

If you're not far from me i'd be happy to plug in and take a look if it's any help.

OK, sorry to hijack the thread but I have some STI headlamps, non-HID as seen below (just!)

A couple of questions:

As they do not have the motorized levelling system, how are the levels adjusted?

As there are separate bulbs for low/high beam, what bulbs are required? I am thinking along the same lines as some posters above, nightbreakers or the equivalent.

Many thanks in advance!

Thanks for the offer Scoobie but as I'm quite a way "dawn sarf" as they say I bought a cheapo bluetooth adapter off of ebay and used it with my phone. Checked and no fault codes stored (had same issue last year which an indy said wasn't showing anything either) - not done it again since happened 3 times in 3 days - always under medium load in 4th between 60-70.

Still, as it's not really impacting on the way it drives seems like it could be a long chase trying to find a cause so will leave it for the mo.

Thanks for offer though!

The thing to do is is to have a subaru specialist out with you with his laptop plugged in to check what is happening at the point where you get the check engine light coming on.

This isn't a fault you can recreate in a garage unless you have a rolling road to run the car on.

If you find yourself anywhere near Northampton sometime and you haven't fixed it yet look me up. I'll be more than happy to plug in and take a look.

Cheers thumbup

Was wondering about improving my bugs headlights, the standard headlights are woefully poor - my old 1998 FTO had hids and i really miss them.
Was next to a new Range Rover at lights last night and actually had to check my lights were on - the light from the front of the RR was incredible. Couldnt see my lights at all.

A set of Osram Night Breaker II are great.

I recall in my WRX bugeye years ago has some Philips GT150 bulds. They worked well.
