The Official Fan's Depression thread
Discussion
I won't bore you with what team I support, but suffice to say that every fan of every club faces regular disappointment, I get that.
However, some of us suffer disproportionately. My team, having done quite well for the last few games of last season went into this season deluding our fans into thinking we were going 'onwards and upwards'. So, what happens? Of course, we haven't won a single match out of eight played, the 'wonderful' team of last season look completely lost, couldn't score in a brothel and - if current form continues - will be relegated by Xmas.
All this is made worse by bloody VAR, players who don't give a st, entitled fans of big clubs, sky high ticket prices, cretinous tv pundits, referees, womens football and the bloody BBC, England being st and international breaks... the list goes on.
I know, it could be worse. I could support Charlton, Portsmouth, Derby, Sheffield Wednesday, Forest Green Rovers, Swindon, Tranmere, Crawley etc etc and my heart goes out to the supporters of all clubs living on past glories and hopes of what might be. It's that hope that ultimately kills all of us, even those lucky enough to support on of the 'big six' who generally win something every couple of years at least.
But it's fking miserable for most of us, with the odd shaft of sunlight being just enough to keep you interested. Well, after over fifty years of mostly depression, I'm really pissed off with being pissed off and I wonder why I subject myself to it every fking season.
Today, I really, really, really hate football.

I just assume my team(s) will always lose, then if they don't it's a bonus.
Most of the time that's a sound approach. But sometimes a twinkle of possible success is dangled in front of you and you dare to hope that maybe, just maybe, 'our time has come'. But it almost never has, in fact all your dreams will be crushed, you'll be stupidly depressed and everyone rightly takes the piss out of you for being so gullible.Colchester
2020 shortened season finished in league 2 playoffs .
Ever since they have finished narrowly avoiding relegation to National league ,closest being season end 23-24 when last day they could have gone down
if Sutton had scored a few more goals and we had lost .
Haven't been to a match for about 13 years , even away matches that are way closer to where I live now ,including Sutton United ,close enough to walk to Gander Green lane .

The Charlton dig was the biggest giveaway!
Not really a dig, as the positions have been reversed in the past. Charlton were very much on the verge of some great success under Curbishley but they didn't feel he could take them to 'the next level'. Well, they've certainly achieved that and you've got to feel sorry for their fans. A bit. Well, a little bit. In fact, schadenfreude is what gets most of us through the dark patches....Pitre said:

Palace fan. Has to be
However today I am enjoying football even though I know it won't last.
Although I can't understand what is happening to your team at present, I am sure you will have enough to pull you clear, Southampton are doomed, probably also Ipswich or Wolves so it's the final place everyone is fighting to stay out of.

Not sure of the need to state that being a Tranmere fan could be worse. We're fresh from beating the mighty Bromley away from home and apparently the target of the latest "hollywood" takeover.
Had a good day out at Prenton Park a few years back. Genuine but long-suffering fans.... Hope the takeover goes well QPR fan here.
1. We can't spend any money due to FFP.
2. We played Portsmouth at HOME at the weekend, they have not won a game all season, and, well......
3. That defeat left us bottom.
4. Tonight at HOME we played 4th from bottom, and got a draw.
5. Our next 5 matches inc the current top 6
I'ld rather be a Palace fan right now!
