I think it's a great idea.

No manager would be happy with his player if he was taken out of play for twenty/ thirty minutes for committing a silly foul or kicking the ball out of play.

Players would still get a red though for serious stuff, as now.redcard

Do away with all this yellow card nonsense, a good sharp shock.

Maybe.

It seems to work pretty well in rugby, and has done for a long time in ice hockey.

I just can't help thinking that FIFA/UEFA or the refs will find a way to make it pointless and completely fk up another decent idea.

Maybe I'm too cynical in my old age ...

And while you’re at it let’s mic up the refs so everyone can hear how unpleasant some players can be.

Sin Bin is one idea from rugby that football could use. Head injury/blood temporary subs is another.

With the Sin Bin would need some thought if the binned player was the keeper. Temporary sub allowed a la rugby front rower?

Why's the keeper special? Someone else can have their gloves for the duration. hehe

It's already in use in the lower eschelons of the National League System, for a ten minute period. Has drastically reduced cases of dissent in many areas...

As for the keeper situation - it oes happen. Goalkeeper has to go off, outfielder in goal then when his ten minutes in the dugout are up, he can come back on and outfielder resumes, er, outfield!

At that level, there are no fines for the player sinbinned (whereas it is £12 for a caution) but sin bin cautions count towards their totting up discipline (five yellows/sin bins = one match ban).

What’s required is training for referees! The quality I see in the lower leagues is laughable. The inconsistency a joke to the game. They will ignore fouls for 45 mins then suddenly get a grip then ignore another foul or dissent a few minutes after giving a foul completely mad.

Exactly. Maybe if we introduce it, football might grow a big and as popular as rugby and ice hockey, as we're told it works well there.
