A truly great manager.

How I wish he could have managed this crop of England players they would have won the lot.

Gutted, talented coach and far too forward thinking/speaking for the FA at the time. The way we played during Euro '96 showed how well he could get a group of players to play properly, and they really wanted to play for him.Didn't see that sort of cohesion with the managers that followed which says a lot for me.
Rest up Tel.

My thoughts too.

No team since then has felt as cohesive as the '96 Euros team.

Sad news.

If he’d have stayed on, we’d have had a good shot at the ‘98 World Cup.

I was watching the Beckham documentary on Netflix last night. They showed the team coming out for the Argentina game and you think (again)
“How did we not win anything with that team?”

RIP.

However for all of his tactical nous and all of the glory he brought Tottenham and Barcelona, he will always be remembered as the manager who picked an out of form Alan Shearer (who hadn’t scored for 12 games) over John Fashanu for Euro 96.

What might have been if we had Fash the Bash leading the line at his home tournament in stead of Shearer.

A small stain on a wonderful legacy.

WTF?

John Fashanu retired at the end of the 1995 season due to injury?

confused

I think it’s safe to say that Terry will not be remembered for overlooking Fash…..

I'm sure he played for Palace when my dad took me to Selhurst Park in the 70s.

Indeed he did. He and Ian Evans went to Palace as a swop for Don Rogers who went to QPR. I think it's fair to say his impact as a manager was greater than as a player, certainly at Palace.

One of a growing number of trolls that seem to inhabit PH these days. Only make comments in order to get the attention they probably don't get in "real life".

See also G-wiz for details.

Or are they one and the same?
