Heard about it on the radio.

Over £250m offer to take him from PSG and pay him £700m for a years football.

He’s early 20’s and a multimillionaire but that’s money that shapes your wider family for generations. It’s very hard to say no to and no one round him would possibly advise other wise. FFP clearly is irrelevant to the Saudi league but isn’t to PSG. Income for them at that level will be a game changer for them and they’ll kick on and the French league will be there’s for years and they’ll compete in the champions league.

If he goes football could change forever. You’ll get players running down contracts and doing a year’s sabbatical to set themselves up then perhaps return to Europe but the Saudi league will just grow and grow. As it stands in club football if you pay the most, you win the most.

There’s going to be change and I doubt we’ll like it.

If he puts money before making himself an all time legend, which he won’t do in that tin pot league, good luck to him.

One year in Arabia making a huge amount of money tax free then move to one of the big clubs. I don't get the impression that the French league is a great one although he does get to play in the Champions League.

May as well play in a st league for a st load of cash than a little bit less st league for a load of cash.

Does it for a year then goes to Madrid - would be bonkers not to!

What makes you say that?

This isn't just about money, even if we think that footballers are all just cash-grabbing mercenaries.

Wherever Mbappe goes, he'll be set for life, along with those around him. If he manages himself and his career correctly, he can be a billionaire by the time he retires without needing to go to Saudi Arabia for a year.

He will, I suspect, want to win big trophies - the Champions League being the most obvious one. I'll be hugely surprised and disappointed if, at the age of 24, he takes this move.

It's for a single season with the expectation he'll then join Real Madrid this time next year at the age 25 for another truck load of cash. Plenty of time to win big trophies, and he has already got a World Cup winner medal on his mantlepiece.

He's one person playing a team sport. The best team wins the most in football regardless of whether Mbappe plays for them or not.

Plus whats he going to win? The premiership (the biggest and best league in the world)? No. The Champions League? Last time I checked there were no Saudi clubs in the CL. The FA Cup? Nope. The Bundesliga? Serie A? La Liga?

If he's stuck between a choice of staying at PSG and rotting in the reserves, or going to Saudi for a year and pocketing that much money, it's a no brainer for him. It's all very well saying its a lack of ambition, but hes in a pickle with PSG and seems no alternative. Obviously if Madrid / someone else pony up an acceptable offer PSG accept and he still chooses Saudi over that, then you can question it.

I know what I would do.

Have you ever turned down a pay rise?

It’s a year long contract offer. He’s 24. PSG want and need the cash. He won’t re-sign. He’d be 25 and a billionaire at the end of his contract, incredibly rested, fresh and fit then able to chose anywhere he wants to play football for his peak years, then he could agree a retirement contract back in Saudi Arab worth more billions.

Have you ever changed your job for less money to do the same thing for a different company whilst being 24?

The premier league has become the best in the world and watched by billions of people worldwide and it’s a cash cow. Their oil is finite and they have more money than pretty much anyone in the world and want new income. They’ve chosen sport.

Do you watch the World Cup? Saudi Arabia beat Argentina and it was watched by billions. They want a large piece of football and they are taking it.

I predict if we revisit this post in 5 years time most of it will turn out to be complete tripe.

That's a good point.

By far the best thing about the French league is it grants access to the CL.
