Footballers who didn't live up to the hype
Discussion
Wayne Rooney. Not a dissimilar age to Messi & Ronaldo, and at 18, was ahead of them. Seeing him at the 2004 Euros he looked like he would become one of the world's greats, like Pele or Maradona.
Obviously he had a very good career but now it's over, would you put him in the top 500 all time great footballers. Probably not.

For someone that was a driving force for Everton, United, and in the latter years for DC United, and won multiple titles and cups you think he didn’t live up to the hype? United’s leading goal scorer, and joint England goal scorer.
