You know the ones........lauded as a youngster but ultimately didn't fulfill their potential.

I can think of Franny Jeffers and more recently Connor Wickham.

There must be more.............

Dele Ali (as much as it pains me). Never seen a footballer have his form fall off a cliff like Dele

Jesse Lingard, although he's still quite a few years from retirement so the jury's still out...

He got to the top though. Just couldn’t maintain it so lived up to the early hype.

I saw Jon Bostock play for Brentford. He was absolutely outstanding in what was a moderate Bees side.

No idea why he didn’t make it to the top.

Can someone explain this to me? What happened, did he just forget or something?

Joe Cole. Hailed as the new messiah. Wasn't shabby but never got to where he was expected to.

Wayne Rooney. Not a dissimilar age to Messi & Ronaldo, and at 18, was ahead of them. Seeing him at the 2004 Euros he looked like he would become one of the world's greats, like Pele or Maradona.

Obviously he had a very good career but now it's over, would you put him in the top 500 all time great footballers. Probably not.

confused

For someone that was a driving force for Everton, United, and in the latter years for DC United, and won multiple titles and cups you think he didn’t live up to the hype? United’s leading goal scorer, and joint England goal scorer.

Yeah that's an odd choice given he's 2nd on the all-time scorers list
