GOAT - Messi or Ronaldo
Discussion
Having had the misfortune of listening to Piers Morgan on TalkSport this morning proclaiming his best mate Ronaldo is the better player

Who is the better of the two?

Personally, for me it's Messi
From my dad's point of view - having watched Pele, Beckenbauer, Maradona, Best, Cruyff, Duncan Edwards and many, many others - it's Messi
Ronaldo, great player. His petulance has always been there but has more recently come to the fore.
Unfortunately, and very sadly, I think events outside of football have impacted him massively in the last 12 months

Messi all day long.
Ronaldo has had an amazing career, one he built through determination and hard work. I feel like he's tarnishing that slightly now, although he'll still be remembered as a great. One of the pundits summed it up nicely - age catches us with us all and he's struggling with that reality. Perhaps he thought he'd last longer at the top due to his diet, athletic ability, etc.
Re Crouch - he played in top 4 teams, Champions League and has a record better than 1 in every 2 games for England. He wasn't always pretty to watch but he was around a lot of very good players.

Of the two, I would say Messi.
Ronaldo brings something to the game, and something more than that to a team: himself.
It's hard to label anyone GOAT as there are different factors to consider. Of their generation, Pele, Maradonna, Cruyff, Zidane, Best, Beckenbauer, Zico, et al are all in with shouts. The greatest defender and goalkeeper should also be lauded equally.
In terms of the greatest player I have seen at a game I've been to would probably be Ronaldinho, but I also did enjoy Maldini's performances as well as Bergkamp and Henry in more recent times.

For me Messi is the greater individual talent, and more naturally gifted. Ronaldo is the harder worker, better leader and is able to build a better team around him (in the past anyway, not so much these days).
Better leader? The guy has no integrity at all.
Look kids, when you don't get your own way just cry as loud as possible until you do.
Remember to sulk at every opportunity and it pays to be unsporting at the final whistle.
Role model he is not.

I'll quote Peter Crouch
"I feel if you say Ronaldo, you don't know football very well"
Are we to take it that Peter Crouch is an authority on football? Has he played with either or even in a semi-successful team?"I feel if you say Ronaldo, you don't know football very well"
In any case, I think his playing for 7 Premier League clubs counts as "semi-successful" and means he knows more than you or I.
Messi for me. They are both up there with the very best there's been to be fair. I went to Barcelona years ago and saw some amazing players against Levante. The opposition wasn't great but Messi and Eto absolutely destroyed them. The quick feet, balance and strength to hold off players were different level. Ronaldinho had bags of technical ability but was easily bullied off the ball and got kicked a lot which sent him into his shell that game. Henry couldn't even get on the pitch. Eto was something else that night too.
Messi has more natural talent but Barcelona was built round him, Ronaldo is amazingly dedicated and achieved at various clubs and leagues at the highest level. For me Maradona was better as Napoli would never have won anything without him and football was a riskier and more violent game when he was playing.
