Probably not much concern over rising energy bills here...

Is there an actual point to this thread? They’ll be paying huge amounts in tax as a result.

Peter Jackson earned c. $580M in 2021, shall we start a thread in the TV section in a similar vein?

As you can see from the link - a fair bit of effort would has gone into compiling the list. So if you are after a 'point' to the thread (assuming it actually needs to have one that fits in with your own selected criteria) - then the point is simply to bring it to the attention of those that might be interested.

Please feel free to ignore it yourself (as I am sure you do with many other threads on this forum).

Maybe you could have opened with something along the lines of “this is interesting etc” then instead of just a link and sarcasm. confused I’m not psychic as far as I’ve determined so far.

The effort required depends on how it’s been sourced I would imagine. If tapping into an existing data set then probably not a great deal, if all originally sourced then a lot of work. That isn’t self evident by clicking on the link (which I did do).

As for the size of the salaries it’s basic economics. They are worth it more for my money than Denise Coates and her earnings (c. £7m+ per week).

Where's Phil Foden on this list?

Good luck to them. If someone's daft enough to pay it.

I'm always torn on threads like this. Because many of us will baulk at over-paying a random oerson in a category we deem 'unworthy' we're also hypocritically prepared to drop coin on something we deem 'worthy'.

While kicking pigs bladder blah blah can readily be described as unworthy versus doctors, nurses etc.

Is paying to watch cinema, music, organic homeopathic farm raised chicken eggs any different to the person paying?
They are getting paid what the market dictates and fair play to them. Personally what I find interesting is the high to low range for players in the same team.

One of the guys on that list is my next-door neighbour - he earns in 6 weeks what I earn in a year... eek

He'll sleep easy knowing that, on 12k p/w, he is on 4 times more than Declan Rice hehe

There are a lot of mediocre overpaid players, but towards the top end I don't think it's ridiculous. Leaving aside the market forces fundamental, and opining for a minute on the ethical dimension of this.

If you are one of the best in the world at what you do, and there is a huge global demand for it, is it overpaid to earn £200,000 p/w as Kane does? Doesn't seem crazy to me.

Grealish is the worst value near the top of the list.

How much do top Tennis players. American footballers, Golfers, Basketball players, rock stars earn?

They all put bums on seats.

Of course footballers hit the jackpot when Sky TV money came in around 1993.

Why are footballer salaries always quoted as a weekly figure, rather than annual like the rest of us? Are they paid 52 weeks-a-year, or just the weeks they play, or just over the course of a season?

I’d imagine it’s carried on from when football was the working man’s sport and he himself was given a weekly pay packet and thus easily relatable.

Youngster on a £20K/year two year contract in the under 21s. Market value was £225K.
He's now stepped up to the senior side and signed a contract extension in March for this season. Current market value £2.7M. If (big if) Bournemouth stay up, I expect his agent will be looking to negotiate a new contract. But they are a tiny club and not going to have a wage structure comparable to the big teams.

Tiny club with a wealthy backer.
