Right then Piston Heads, played this and I'm totally addicted. Some big names from history coming up in the game like Rush, Maradona and Lineker. Just simply guess which player has scored more goals with the aim of getting most right in a row.

I scored 8, share your score in the comments.

I scored 6, was on a roll then they threw I someone I'd never heard of with 500 goals to his name. WTF.

It needs a massive caveat adding which is that it only includes domestic league goals, not "senior" goals. Romario for example only has 311 on the quiz but in reality has to bet 750 "senior" goals.

23.

Generally it's Strikers v Attacking Midfielders. Midfielders are unlikely to have a 1 in 2 strike rate, so unless they have played many more games, pick the striker. Where players of the same position, pick most games. That's 80% of the answers.

On Romario's wikipedia, in the intro it says he scored 750 goals, but on his table on the right it says 311. Where are all the other goals? I'm pretty confused. I get that he scored goals in cups and for country but surely not 400+.

I failed at the first question: John Aldridge vs Alan Shearer.

I was quite surprised to see the difference.

Staggered by this score.

There are quite a few where there is only a goal or two in it.

My best (3 attempts ) was 11

No Google?

Obviously the more you play it, the more you remember players's numbers. Some players come up regularly, others not so much. I have only had Jimmy Greaves once in about 50 attempts. Having said that, I have only improved to 26.

You could easily Google but what's the point?

How did Stanley Matthews manage 717 league games and score 'just' 71 goals. You assume that a forward thinking player back then in a time of goals would have notched a few more. Assume he was more of a playmaker or assist king than a scorer.

Because the "Wizard of the Dribble" was a winger, not a striker or centre forward. No stats for assists I'm afraid. The same reason Zidane only scored 95 from 506 games.

True, and I know the assist metric was only really captured in the Sky Sports TV era (with apologies to Charles Reep who was prob all over that stuff!) but for such a legendary player it must be a reflection of quite what a baller he must have been to be so fondly remembered despite the lack of goals.

Looking at stats for Garrincha or Puskas (both inside forwards also I think) they were much more prolific scorers. Went down a rabbit hole of youtube vids on Sir Stan yesterday but sadly not a huge amount of footage of him but did find a cheeky nutmeg in there!
