You know the sort of thing, how many clubs in the top five English leagues start and end with the same letter? How many clubs with an 'x' in their name? And one of my favourites in the top four English leagues, name five 'Rovers'.

Liverpool, Northampton Town, Aston Villa and now York City back in the National League.
Used to be Halifax, Wrexham, Exeter, Crewe Alexandra.
Bristol, Tranmere, Doncaster, Blackburn and the one everyone forgets, Forest Green.

So, what else have you got?

In season 1972/73, clubs from Lancashire won all four divisions of the Football League, name the four teams.

The trick is that three of the four teams are no longer in Lancashire, following the creation of the metropolitan counties of Merseyside and Greater Manchester in 1974.

Div. 1: Liverpool
Div. 2: Burnley
Div. 3: Bolton Wanderers
Div. 4: Serious bonus points for anybody who gets this one without looking it up - I'll come back and tell you tomorrow if nobody gets it!

There are 2 clubs in Europe that won the EC1/CL but do not play on the highest club level in their country.

Which are they?

I'm sure everyone would get Nottingham Forest. Unless they've read results around Europe today I think they'll struggle to name the second.

That's a good hint.

And indeed Nothingham Forest is the obvious one.

You forgot Oxford United!

And the five league teams that have the same letter appearing four times in their name? (Kidderminster Harriers used to be another in the past, 4 x r )

That's an old and well known one.

Another old one that has to be a spoken question with a Scottish accent.

Name the ex-Celtic and Scotland defender whose dad was Jamaican?

Roy Aitken.

That won't work on here will it?

clap It is indeed Southport - not only no longer in Lancashire, but not been in the league since 1978 when they were replaced by Wigan.

According to Wikipedia (so MUST be true) they were also the last team to leave the Football League via the old re-election system.

Haha fantastic! I live in Southport (about 5 mins drive from their ground) and knew they used to be fairly decent and made it to the old Div 3. Answer was a punt though!
