Is this getting out of hand (no pun intended).
Ruling is that if the arm increases the outline of the person and the ball hits it then it's hand ball and often a penalty.
Now to my mind, a ball can hit a players arm but he's using that arm for balance, support, it just happens to be in line of the balls trajectory but he isn't using that arm to consciously control the ball. Should that really be a hand ball?
One the other day (on TV) defender on the ground, his body at abut 30 degrees, supported by his arm otherwise he'd have been horizontal. This all happened in a split second but the ball hit his supporting arm and a penalty was awarded. as it happens, the penalty taker missed.
This sort of thing seems to happen a lot though, it's not a Maradona type hand ball which is obviously trying to control the ball direction.
Does the rule need looking at?
Rant over - no swearing involved.

There's something wrong when defenders are now going in to a tackle with their hands clasped behind their backs.

I thought that if the ball hit your supporting arm then it wouldn't be a handball. TBH it's so confusing to the referees that even with a couple of minutes of video replays they still get it wrong.

The rules say:

it is not an offence if the ball touches a player’s hand/arm:

- when a player falls and the hand/arm is between the body and the ground to support the body, but not extended laterally or vertically away from the body

Can't recall the match now but that is exactly what happened and a penalty was awarded.

I guess you're taking about 20 seconds into this video.

His hand is on the floor supporting him. However he's fallen to the ground initially and then raised his hand off the floor. He's then thrown himself in front on the player taking a shot. He's not fallen, he's made himself wide to block the shot on goal.

I do agree the handball situation is out of control at the moment. Too much inconsistency and what VAR decides to pull up. There's too many fans expecting handball for nothing.

Watch Villarreal's third goal tonight. De Light threw himself to the floor and the ball hit his arm under him. Penalty and VAR didn't change it.

Worst part is the referee blew the whistle instantly and the ball was put into the net within a second.
