I also find the fact that there are a great number of professional players who do not take throw in's correctly and this largely goes unpunished. I know it's not a big deal but when I coached my lads team when he was young I insisted that the lads learnt the basic skills including taking a throw in correctly.Basics sometimes get overlooked, I'm sure that one of the requirements of taking a throw correctly was from the correct place otherwise that constituted a foul throw as well as the more usual foot in the air etc.( I may be advised otherwise by anyone with more rule knowledge than myself).
We are told to manage the technical, punish the physical. Throw-ins, and where they are taken from specifically, are one of those things that we just tolerate because to raise your profile just makes you a target and once you do it once, you have to do it throughout. Just like "timewasting", every team does it and as long as you're consistent and don't let teams take the piss, it's easier to just let it go.
Most refs will, however, tell the player where to take it from. I always find it amusing how apoplectic teams (and especially managers) get over such triviality. They really should worry about more important things on the pitch than that.
