Covid postponements - explain this to me
Discussion
Someone please explain the reasoning behind this to me...
Brighton v Spurs (12 Dec) was cancelled on 9 Dec due to Spurs not having enough players. But they are now due to play tonight, which suggests they do have enough players. Given that you have to self-isolate for 10 days if you return a positive PCR test, how come Spurs suddenly have enough players?
A similar thing with Utd. Tuesdays game is cancelled due to an outbreak in the Utd squad, but they're still due to play on Saturday. Surely if they didn't have enough fit and Covid -ve players on Tuesday they won't have for Saturday?
What's going on? What am I missing?

Spurs and Leicester both asked, separately, for tonight’s game to be postponed and the premier league said ‘no’. So they’ll be going down their squads and there’ll probably be a lot of under-23 players getting rolled out. Except that they’ve got covid too.
Just been postponed.I think this weekends games will be postponed as well, potentially even the Carling Cup games next week, FFS.
Chelsea announced they’ve got some cases too
That’s United, Chelsea, Leicester, Watford, Brentford, Burnley & Spurs all with issues, there are probably more too. That’s 1/3rd of the PL, and I think will account for 2/3rds of the weekend’s matches as only United & Brighton are due to face each other this weekend.
Can’t se show it’s going to go ahead, although there will be enormous pressure from government not to suspend the matches. The bizarre thing is that they were effectively urging fans not to attend matches this coming midweek and weekend.

Wales saying all their sporting events must be behind closed from Boxing Day. Will affect Swansea and Cardiff at the moment.
Sign of things to come for the rest of the U.K.?
Top league has a shutdown after the Jan 2nd fixtures, so I suspect they will try to get them as normal and shut after that. Let’s see. Sign of things to come for the rest of the U.K.?

Quite probably. Sign of things to come for the rest of the U.K.?
Covid cases in the population are rising rapidly so I don't think it would be too surprising if fans were locked out again for a while, although looking at the stats there doesn't seem to be the same number of hospital admissions or deaths, which was the main driver last time. I read (don't know how true) that 'most' of the hospital admissions were from non-jabbed people - if that's the case then maybe their option will be to ban anyone without vaccination proof. Not that that will be without its issues!
But during the main lockdowns, players/teams were largely unaffected - what are they doing differently now that has caused the change? Given that we've been told that being vaccinated reduces the chance of catching the virus (although not eliminating it completely), maybe teams should only field vaccinated players. That should go some way to preventing the spread between teams I feel.
But something needs to change or I can see the disruption of this season being worse than previous.

Scottish football effectively behind closed doors too from Boxing Day for at least three weeks.
Other than a couple of fixtures they won't notice much difference sorry...but I was genuinely shocked when I looked at the average gates

I hope Scottish football pulls forward the winter break. Rather than playing to empty stadiums I hope games are postponed and things are better a month down the line. It's the right thing to do in the circumstances.
We are having the same arguments up here about what games are cancelled and going ahead. St Mirren barely have a team to put together and calling in kids to make up numbers, but have been told they have to play on. Hibs had games cancelled with less positive cases.
