RIP The Bomber - Gerd Muller
Discussion
Gerd Muller has died aged 75 - so many goalscoring records, but 68 goals from 62 international caps is pretty remarkable esp when he retired from internationals at just 28…

I thought he quit with similar media pressure issues as Best.
He quit playing for West Germany after they won the World Cup in 1974 after an argument with the German FA when they allowed officials wives to attend the post WC celebrations but none of the players wives. He didn't start to have his alcoholic troubles until after retiring from the game......like many of that era they had nothing once their playing career was over and struggled without the game.

One of the best strikers I've ever seen.
Agreed! Over a goal a game at the very top level of international football and 547 goals in 594 games for Bayern Munich - he'd be worth an absolute fortune if he was playing and in his prime today. My first ever England match at Wembley, April 1972, and Geoff Hurst was subbed, and which turned out to be the last time he played for England.
We lost 1-3 and Muller scored their 3rd goal.

I think the other two records he held show just how much he’d be worth now…High total goals in a calendar year of 85 in just 60 games in 1972 stayed until 2012 when Messi scored 86 in 66 games.
Highest number of goals in a Bundesliga season of 40 in 71-72 stood until, 49 years later, Lewandowski scored 41 last season.
Poacher supreme by all accounts, not glamorous or startlingly skilful, just very quick and always in the right place.

Interesting detail.
I think I'll pay my respects by watching a few Youtube video's.
