I see he has been released by Newcastle. I was incredulous when he signed for Liverpool but on his day he was a very strong centre forward. Terrible luck with injuries and he always scored against Southampton no matter who he played for

He never fulfilled his potential in my opinion and I hope he finds a club to play regularly at

I agree, on his day he was a right handful. I suspect he will only get a pay-as-you-play deal at his age and with his injury record. But if affordable could be a good buy for a Championship team.

I recall him coming on as a 2nd half sub for Liverpool in the 2012 FA Cup final against Chelsea, when we were 2-0 up and cruising. He was a nightmare to deal with, he scored one and Cech had to pull off a wonder save to deny him an equaliser. He transformed the game, turned it from a stroll in the park to a total battle, the last thing we needed a week before the CL final. Was very relieved to hear the final whistle.

Shame his style of play in conjunction with being made of glass stopped him actually being consistently at the level he could’ve. Didn’t he rule himself out for a couple of weeks after crocking himself putting his shoes on?

Could be a really useful super-sub, disrupter type for a Championship side now of course.

Great player in his prime, but the amount of injuries and inability to play a string of games must make him a liability for most clubs.

1 goal in 37 appearances for Newcastle, for someone who would have been on good wages is not a good return.

As a Liverpool fan it still hurts to think we thought he was a replacement for Torres.

On the other hand I agree... he's somehow failed to make the most of his talent, be that through injury or whatever other reason.

I can see him going to MLS, hopefully if he plays somewhere warm like LA or Miami he may pick up fewer injuries.

I think Torres was as bad for Chelsea as Carrol was for Liverpool.

I remember the one specific season at Newcastle with Joey Barton in midfield- as a neutral they were a great pairing for that club.

I know they pay that to the superstars, but will anyone in China care too much about him to pay him very much at all?
I don't see him going anywhere other than a pay for play deal

It was more a response to the MLS idea. My perception is China seems much more amenable to players in the twilight of their career, compared with the US. And ‘how ever many hundred’ might be half laugh It’s not that long since he was being touted (in the press) as a 300k a week player there, and he was broken then too. Maybe he’ll bin playing off and do his coaching badges, or drift into telly.
